Tips for women on how to start a business on a shoestring budget

Ranked #69,468 in Business & Work, #717,953 overall

At 9-years old, Leesa started her first business selling scratch and sniff stickers. Instead of buying these stickers ready made from the corner store, Leesa made them from scratch using pencil crayons, sticky fluorescent paper and a secret ingredient that gave each sticker its scent.

Sales were brisk, but her business closed down after only a week when her business partner revealed what gave the stickers its fruity smell - half chewed bubble gum that Leesa stuck in the middle.

Although her first experience at running a business left a bitter taste in her mouth, it didn't deter Leesa from launching additional businesses. In high school, instead of looking for a summer job to keep her busy in July and August, she launched a resume writing business.

Her entrepreneurial passion led her to launch a women's sports website, participate in a couple of network marketing companies and even launch an online store selling pleasure products. All these experiences taught her how to start a business using frugal and low cost strategies.

With only $2000 in her pocket, Leesa started her current company, Savia Lane, which helps women launch their own business on a shoestring budget. Through her interactive workshops and coaching programs, Leesa is teaching her winning techniques to women across North America.
