Interested in getting out of mutual funds?
Mutual funds often have such high fees that it can be hard to actually make money in down-markets. You should consider dividend stock investing because the fees are minimal and it's quite a low-risk strategy. There are plenty of sites where you can do basic stock research such as stock price, and dividend rate but this site will focus exclusively on dividends and dividend stocks. There are so many dividend stock investing websites, but I've included only my favorites on this one so you won't waste your time.
My experience with dividend stock investing
A few years ago, I reached a place where I had saved up about $20 000 that I was interested in investing in the stock market. I did extensive research for about a year, looking at the various options. Eventually, I settled on dividend stock investing because it seemed not so complicated, not so risky and could offer good returns if done for the long term. I started investing about 2 years ago, and have a steady stream of dividends coming in every month, about $200 or so. I keep investing more money that I make from my job, as well as the dividends. I hope to grow this monthly income to over $1000/month.You're a newbie and want to know the basics? Well, dividends are simply earnings that a company pays out to its shareholders. Most companies pay 4 times/year, at a set amount/share. The only fees for this investing strategy are the commission that you pay to buy the stock (from $3-$20) and the same fee when you sell the stock. If you sign up with an online discount broker such as Sogotrade, your fees will be minimal.
As with any investing, do your research first and act second. This site is a good place to start!
Dividend Investing Sites
- Dividend Monk
- This is the best site I've found for dividend stock analysis. His reviews are simple and easy to understand even for a beginner investor. In addition, he has some articles on a wide range of topics that are quite helpful. In addition, he has 8 steps to building wealth that everyone would do well to read.
- Dividend Growth Investor
- This is another site that has some dividend stock analysis. It's a bit more technical than the Dividend Monk so is perhaps more suited to the intermediate or advanced investor. This site is also good at compiling lists of stocks that have recently raised their dividends. This is a good place to look when looking for some new companies to invest in. If a company is raising their dividends, it usually means they are doing well and making money.
- Dividends Value
- This site is similar to the other 2, with a mix of stock analysis and articles. The thing I like best about the one is the weekly links feature, with dividend articles from around the web. I also like the lists that he provides; he screens for a certain set of criteria and posts them up on the site. It's quite helpful to see what other investors look for when considering what stocks to buy.
General Investing Sites: stock research, preferred stocks, mutual funds and dividend paying stocks.
These are the places to go to for more general investing information. If you want information specific to dividends, just do a search and you'll find thousands of entries.
- Morningstar
- Information for the more advanced investor
- Kiplinger
- You might know Kiplinger from their personal finance magazine. This is their website. It's perfect for the beginner investor because they offer a wealth of basic information.
- Investopedia
- This is one of the most comprehensive investing sites around. You could spend days here, cruising around learning lots of good information.

- Have you had some experience in investing in dividend stocks? Maybe you can share with us your personal experience. Others do not want dividends because of its tax implications. But I like it especially this year.

- Yeah, I've been investing in dividend stocks for a few years now. I pay 15% tax on them, like everyone else. I'm not really sure what are the negatives with regard to taxes? Other income is the same tax situation, or worse.
