He earned the nickname "Dizzy", due to his on-stage antics (there was a clown in there after all), and the upturned bell of his trumpet became an instant trademark. He also arranged and composed music, such instant classics as "Groovin' High", "Night in Tunisia" and "Manteca", which are staple tunes performed by hundreds of jazz musicians around the world..

- Dizzy Gillespie is one of my favorite Jazz musicians...the Ed Sullivan Show would feature Dizzy and his band regularly during the 1960's. "If you ain't got that swing, it don't me a thing...bebop, bebop"!

- I was too young to appreciate him when he was performing. He has interesting form. Now I understand why so many trumpet players puff their cheeks out.
