Clubbers Just Can't Get Enough of DJ Cammy
Gaining his fame for adeptly innovating old boring songs into more jumpy and edgy tunes, this young Scottish DJ Cammy (real name: Cameron Craig) has endeared clubbers into making him one of the most sought-after DJ in the UK. Most of DJ Cammy's remixes slide down into the trance, techno and electronica genre. As he is based in Glasgow, DJ Cammy is swiftly gaining his strong reputation as European fans shower him with numerous accolades for integrating cutesy acapellas in his music.
DJ Cammy released out his first offering entitled "Put Your Hands Up", under the label of Q-Dup Records in 1999. In his DontStayIn web page, he prided his 17 most popular remixes namely, "Dancin In The Dark", "Everytime We Touch", "I'll Get Over You", "Sexy Eyes", "Ah Ahh Ahhh", "Flute Tune", "On A Party Trip", "Crazy Frog (remix)", "Stop The Time", "Country Roads", "Celebrate the Summer", "Shining Star", "Saturday Night", "Endless Summer", "Heaven (Sad Song)", "Everlastin' Love" and "The Cuppycake Song".
Proof to his unprecedented popularity is the droves and droves of fans seeking out his music on the Youtube website. For instance, DJ Cammy's "Endless Summer" version in Youtube is garnering more than 2.5 million views. In fact, it is more popular than the original song made by Cascadas. Another song "Hardcore Vibes" is claiming to have 2.1 million views. DJ Cammy even reinvented a cheesy boyband tune -- A1's single released in February 2000 "Like a Rose". Fans really liked DJ Cammy's "Like a Rose Version" that his version's popularity is taking over Youtube with 1.8 million views. However, this version has the same intro with his "Cuppycake Song" that is also enjoying over 1 million views.
Sadly, DJ Cammy is not unscathed as the lashings of several critics condemn his style of reinventing his tunes. They charge what DJ Cammy is doing is "just speeding up" original songs from different artists and calling it his own. They call this "ultralooping", where DJs get a vocal/sample/acapella, take parts the sounds and speed up music in recreating new tunes using DJ softwares like Mixcraft or Acid Pro. Worse, comments like DJ Cammy is "just a kid with a computer" or he has no talent or style that he can be proud of are often thrown at him as they seem unaware of how he strived hard enough into giving out his best to give his fans the club music they want.
Simply put, you cannot easily drag him down as DJ Cammy has several fans who still find his music entertaining and creative. We all know that DJs are entitled to revise old songs by speeding up and beatmixing the original. You can't deny the fact that DJ Cammy is not claiming that these songs were originally his, when we can even recognize the complete title of the original song used still intact. As DJ Cammy was the one who applied all the new approaches to improve the song, naturally he should put up his name in the artist byline.
