Why DNA Dog Testing?

When it comes to your dog, you marvel at how affectionate they are or why they insist on trying to catch every squirrel that crosses the yard. Did you know that a simple DNA dog testing can explain the reasons for these traits?

These tests can determine what type of breed your dog is, whether they are made up of one or fifteen different breeds.

DNA Dog Testing at Home

DNA Dog TestingThe DNA dog testing can tell you all about why your dog looks the way it does and acts the way it does. It can even tell you the ancestry of your dog.

There's no need to go to a veterinarian to get a DNA dog testing. There are companies online that offer home testing for your dog's DNA. You order a home test. A special kit comes in the mail. There are step by step instructions for you to follow included in the kit. There's no blood involved. You simply use the tool included to swab your dog's cheek. Seal the swab inside the appropriate container that comes in the kit. You then mail the kit back and the lab results are sent to you. The results are included in the price of the kit.

The Curiosity of DNA Dog Testing

The number of breeds that your dog can be matched to will depend on the company used to perform the DNA dog testing. Some companies can match 62 breeds while others, such as Heritage, can match up to 100 different breeds. There are also different levels in which a match is determined. The first level involves 75% of your dog's genetic makeup, other levels can match as little as 10% of your dog's ancestry. If you're curious as to why your dog would rather lie around all day or why they have the color fur that they do, then DNA dog testing may be for you.
