I didn't know where were so many versions of this.

A beautiful poem and one I am sure so many people can relate to. I remember first reading this at school and being incredibly moved. It has the same impact now.

I have experienced 2 losses in the past 4 weeks. First I lost my maltese "Baby Girl" to cancer and just 13 days later, I lost my brother who was also quite ill. Thank you for this lens, I needed it. Have a beautiful day.

I think of this poem whenever I feel the loss of someone dear to me. It was first introduced to me in a haunting choral arrangement by Eleanor Daley. I wish it to be sung at my wake.

I have only heard the first line of this beautiful poem until I found it here. How exquisite it is. It made me tear up, and I've never lost anyone really close to me. When I do, which inevitably happens to us all, I will remember this poem and seek it's comfort.

It means so much more to me now, decades later. Thank you. It's beautiful.

Hello... thank you for that background on a very beautiful poem. In 2004 I was asked by my mother-in-law to read it at her hisband's funeral, when she was unable to do so... I had heard it only a week previous, on a soapie, of all things... but it is exquisite, and I felt honoured to read it for my husband's family. Thank you. All things good to all.

Wow, I had no idea this was so popular! I first heard it several years ago, when someone sent it to my Gram. She and I are extremely close and she asked me to read it at her funeral. Of course, I agreed. At 86 years old, she's still doing pretty darn well and thankfully, I haven't had to read it yet. Thanks for posting this, it is wonderful! Have a blessed day! ~ Tracy

This is a beautiful lens. Many do not know how to "grieve", how to help someone who is grieving. And, oddly enough, in our western culture, when we do grieve, they want to send us to a "phsychiatrist".

We all need time to grieve, and we need support IN grieving, not to lead us out of it. This normally comes naturally.

    Thanks for sharing,

A card with this poem was sent to me when my mother passed, and I've saved it and read it from time to time -- even though it's been 14 years. Very touching lens on a subject no one wants to experience, but one that inevitably affects us all.

Great 5 star lens I felt the poem was very moving. I lost both my parents before their time. We were lucky to have Hospice come into the home for my mother.

My friend Lillian passed away last year at the age of 101 and this poem was included on her prayer card at the memorial service. She wanted us to be happy for her long life and this poem made it a little easier to deal with our loss.

I agree that Ben Crawley's versions of the song were truly inspirational, spiritual and ethereal all at once. I had goosebumps and felt a soothing healing presence listening to his voice.
