Are you trying to find ways to promote your lens?

If you are like me, you are trying to find ways to get your lenses noticed and increase traffic. I have been surfing around the various lenses looking for networks and ideas to try and increase the amount of quality traffic to my lenses. And I don't want to pay for it. I think if you write interesting articles or lenses that have useful information, people will look for it. The trick is, getting the information out there where it is searchable. There's tons of information on the net, but you have to be unique to stand out. And networking is the key. Anyone in business will tell you that word-of-mouth business is the best kind.

So follow along and I do and see what I have done so far and feel free to add suggestions or comments. I have about 25 lenses so far and I have very little traffic at this time. I am averaging 140 visits in 7 days to all of my lenses. I would like to increase that.

08/26/08 Update: Since I started implementing all these suggestions, my visits have increased to 304 visits in 7 days on average.

Is there any big secret to success? If you find it, let me know. So far, I have decided that the Secret to Sucess is hard work. Finding the right niche and finding the right places to talk about your work. I have not found that magic "easy" button.

Stumble It!

What Was the First Thing I Did to Promote My Lenses?

Forums!

After I created my first Lens - The Secret World of Whippets, I didn't know what to do with it. I joined the SquidU Forms and sought advice in the Critique Me Forum. I got a lot of great information from other Lensmasters. I put a link to my lens in my signature.

Haven't been to the Forums yet? CLICK HERE.

And since I administer two forums of my own, I added a link to my a few of my lenses in my signature.

WhippetTalk Forums
The Paranormal Site

What was the Second Thing?

MySpace and BlogTalk Radio

Next, I decided to add to MySpace Profile that I am a Squidoo Lensmaster. Add links to your lenses in your profile so that all your friends see what you are doing. Send out Bulletins of your new lenses or any updates.

I also have a PodCast site at BlogTalk Radio that I occasionally aire my WhippetTalk Radio Show. I blog about my Whippet related lenses there.

The WhippetTalk Squawk Blog

I created a blog to talk about whippets and promote my WhippetTalk.com site. But I found that I was blogging about what I was doing at Squidoo. It's another backlink all the same.

Create a Lensography

I created a Lensography to showcase all my lenses as I create them and to allow interested lensmasters to see what I am up to, who I am, what my interests are and what my goals are. Right now I am working toward becoming a Giant Squid.

Do You Administer or Own a Forum

Buying Traffic. Is it worth it?

If you really want traffic and get your website or lens noticed you may consider paying a service to get you top rankings in ads on search engines such as Google. Or companies that will help you "optimize" your site and get you higher rankings in the search engines. The question is, what kind of traffic do you want? And when you decide to spend the money, does the service allow you to specify your target audience? Sure, it's great to get a lot of visits to your page. But what is it worth unless you get the type of visits you want. Visits from people who are looking for YOUR topic. Here's a list of sites where you can pay for traffic.

Great lens, Kim.

Thanks for giving us a place to share our profiles and to learn about sites we may not know about.

You reminded me about Mixx and I need to get back there and learn how to use it.
