Do You Think Fox News Is Fair And Balanced?

Ranked #4,076 in Culture & Society, #87,671 overall | Donates to Sisters of the Holy Family

Do you think Fox News shows any political bias in its reporting?

I will answer this right here! I think Fox News is one GIANT, never ending, political ad for the Republican Party.

Fox News is a business and through the genius of Roger Ailes, they have found a way to KEEP a devoted audience by telling them everything they want to hear. With no regard to facts. The problem is they claim to be a NEWS organization.

Chances are if you are reading this you are one who tunes into Fox and ONLY Fox, then you are perfectly content with that. That is all fine and good, however when it comes to politics, what your are watching night after night on this network is not NEWS at all! It is opinion. You may agree with that opinion but that does not make it the truth!

What do you think?

Do you think Fox New shows any bias in its reporting?

Yes

Mike A says:

FOX is biased. Biased toward the truth. Do they lean right? Yes, but they don't try to hide it. The difference with the main stream media is they are very left biased but they won't ever admit it they present everything as though they are just reporting the news. MSNBC is the absolute worst as far as bias goes but they will never admit it!

lizzydizzy says:

Bias, prejudice and always willing to distort, slander and do whatever it takes to advance the conservative...Its all about the monies...and that Bimbo chick omg!!

Michey says:

Yes! definitely, especially by comparison with other channels, we find on Fox both schools of thoughts.

sammyscoops says:

As does MSNBC for the liberal side of the spectrum. The funniest thing to me is the emergence of the Daily Show and the Colbert Report, mock theater, mocking a mock theater. Kinda ironic and tragic in a sense. There is always 2 sides to every story and that especially applies to something as important as politics, its up to us to seek out the similarities and work on those rather than harping on the differences all the time. Nobody gets anywhere that way. Apparantly, gone are the days of Edward R Murrow and integrity in journalism

AmeriYank says:

I have never been able to watch more than 5 minutes of FAUX News. They distort everything. I read somewhere that in a survey done about news networks, people who watch FOX are the MOST MISINFORMED voters. Why? Because of all the misinformation it gives out. in fact, people who watched no news at all, were better informed than FOX viewers.

Graceonline says:

Yes.

TrinaSonnenberg says:

Fox News is so biased that it should be taken off the air, or at least renamed as Republican News.

Ray Hathaway says:

I say it shows nothing but bias in its reporting (if you can call it that) I have found serious flaws in its economy reporting what they say makes is unreasonable at best. Truthfully they and Rush, Hannity and the rest of the jerks need to just go away the world would be a better place without them. The crap the Bill O'Reilly is looking out for the folks is just crap he is looking out for him.

star88 says:

yes, they are biased. What happened to Ron Paul? He has been conveniently forgotten this whole election process. What happened when over a thousand veterans marched on our white house in his support. It wasn't really as much to support RP, as his message. The troops believe in Ron Paul. This was conveniently missed by every news media outlet including Fox. When your reporters gave Ron Paul airtime, they disappeared. Where's Judge N?

GrandMemories says:

LMBO at "fair and balanced." ALL news outlets have agendas and spin the truth to make their points. "Anything told with the intent to deceive is a lie." We all know that politicians are liars, but so is FOX, CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, etc. I am running for President as an honest candidate seeking to save this country from financial ruin.

Edutopia says:

This isn't even up for opinion or discussion. Fox News objectively is not, "fair," or, "balanced," in anything that it does. They've even admitted that they are not in court and have won the right to legally lie to their audience without consequence.

SudokuNut says:

Yes, and they are obvious about it, as is msnbc for the left. Both are as bad as each other, sadly. If they'd just drop the news part and rename themselves the fox opinion channel and msnbc opinion we'd all be better off. Too many people take these talking heads as actually news.

TrinaSonnenberg says:

You betcha!

davespeed says:

Yes, but so does MSNBC.

audreannaga says:

all i have to say is GLENN BECK....., as a conservative catholic, even i say no to fox news

No

Likeitis says:

Look, I'm Canadian, now living in the US. This is a great nation, and could still be the leader the world desperately needs if it could drop this ridiculous left vs right divide and focus on acting as one from the strength of diversity. The only people who profit from the divide are the elite who don't want to be challenged over issues like the Fed, politicians who play out their petty parts in the theater, and media companies like Fox who fan the fires of divisiveness.

Ramona says:

They are biased and right leaning faux news media that is only looking at the $$$$;s.

Louise Dionne-Nowlan, MA says:

Fox News usually gives both sides of the story.
We see many many Liberals interviewed along with a Conservative.
How can that be biased. Even Sean Hannity regularly has Liberals on his show to show both sides of an issue. Bill O does as well. Compared to PBS, CNN, the networks, and ESPECIALLY MSNBC, Fox seems the least biased of all! If you want bias, watch MSNBC for one day! They make Rush Limbaugh look tame!

Mongo says:

FOX has the same effects on the uneducated as religion...dumb down anyone stupid enough to buy into their "opinions". Instead of evolving as a species the Christians in this country have almost completed the formation of the American Taliban in which FOX promotes with enthusiasm and a smile...

Bernie says:

No. They are the ONLY fair and balanced news network. You can count on them having two differing points of views.

Tolovaj says:

I don't watch Fox News but heard many times about them being biased. It is said I noticed that on most of media today. It is good journalist is having an opinion, but being biased... Well, this is not journalism anymore.

M_S_Beltran says:

Not nearly as much as most other news media sources show liberal bias, especially in the last 10 years or so. I'd say Fox, though right leaning, is less slanted than most of them. This last presidential election, Fox was pretty much the least biased news source.

puzzlemaker says:

Fox News is biased with a conservative slant. CNN, MSNBC and almost all other networks are biased with a liberal slant. I think Fox is the MOST unbiased one on the air. Speaking for myself, I want to hear folks who are Intellectually Honest. My favorite contributor at Fox is John Stossel. He always encourages folks to THINK FOR THEMSELVES instead of being spoon fed and believing every single thing they hear - then parroting it to others. If we call ourselves responsible, no matter how we lean politically, we should ALWAYS get the facts, dig, find out what actually happened (in a news story etc.), consider our own thoughts on the subject and THEN form our opinions. I think the better question is whether Fox News is more biased than other news organizations. Great discussion.

WildFacesGallery says:

Most news organizations are pushing their own agenda.

CarynF says:

Fox News is no more biased than CNN or MSNBC.

Former Fox News Talk Show Host: Glenn Beck

Even though Beck is no longer with Fox News, his legacy will live on. What do you think? IMO Glenn Beck is a performer. I really do not think HE even knows what he is talking about. Some people say he is crazy, I do not see it that way. I believe he is just as I said above, a performer. He himself, admits that he is not a journalist and that he does not fact check anything, before it comes out of his mouth.

The scary thing about Beck is, there are people out there, that think that he is some kind of prophet. They read into his insane ramblings and piece together clues to confirm their own paranoia's. In my opinion Glenn Beck's greed for money and fame has no boundaries. Actor or crazy man aside, Beck is a very scary person that is bad for America. What does that say about Fox News, when this man was one of their biggest faces?

Yes that is an actual quote! Not a joke! Video of this is below.
Sean Hannity is known for his unrelenting attacks on the Democratic party and his constant defense of Republicans. Hannity also finds it convenient to distort the truth or just flat out lie when he is trying to get his point across.

One of these clips is from the former show "Hannity & Colmes". Alen Colmes is no longer on the show. Sean Hannity is now solo. Alen Colms was the "Token Liberal" and Hannity ran the show anyway, so it has not changed much.

Fox News Contributor: Karl Rove

Karl Rove was Senior Advisor and Deputy Chief of Staff to former President George W. Bush.

Prior to his White House appointments, Rove was a Republican political consultant and strategist.

Rove was the architect of 1994 and 1998 Texas gubernatorial victories as well as Bush's 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns.

Rove's name has been involved with many political scandals one of which, I find most appalling, is the Valerie Plame affair.

Fox News Contributor: Sarah Palin

WARNING: Voting while inFOXicated is hazardous ... shirtGlenn Beck talks up Sarah Palin as if she is the only mother on the planet who loves her children?! This is NOT news and has NOTHING to do with the issues that face our country?! I love my children too but that does not make me qualified to run for any public office.

After "McCain" chose Pain as his Vice Presidential running mate, Fox News ran with it! Trying to pluck off any possible Hillary votes. Then, as Glenn Beck said, they found out how "Smart" Sarah really was. And as you can see FOX has used that special woman to keep their viewers so well informed? Do you think Fox News should be actively promoting candidates that are blatantly unqualified? The video's below should help in your decision.

Any kind of analysis you could possibly do of the content on the network will clearly show a conservative bias. I am confused on how anyone can even think differently at this point. At one point nearly every Republican presidential contender was on the payroll of Fox News for Pete's sake!
  • jimmyworldstar Jan 22, 2012 @ 1:00 pm | delete
I think they're obviously biased and push a lot of ridiculous nonsense, moreso than any other news network like CNN or MSNBC. The fact that they're routinely caught making false claims like painting senators or representatives as Democrat when they're going through a scandal (when in reality they're Republican) or pushing asinine stories like Obama making "terrorist" fist bumps shows how crazy and untrustworthy as a news source they are.

The few times I've tuned in at Fox, I have found too much venom, hatred, lies, and no "news." Fully intend to continue steering clear. But, I might click over to their website on the 5th of November. ...Here's to changing a few minds, Michelle. The other corporate-media outlets disturb me as well, but not in the soul wringing way that Fox News does.

Well done for adding the Stop Press about the phone-hacking/Murdoch scandal in UK. I suspect that The Times (Murdoch-owned) might well be the next newspaper to go, because of the under-hand methods of news gathering . And yet...and yet...how else do people think investigative journalists got their news? How would they be able to report that anyone at all had been arrested unless the police had given them that information? I've only looked at Fox News once or twice - that was enough for me to know that I don't want to get my news from them!
Oh, and by the way, here are some Angel Blessings

I'm a moderate and personally believe that people who are so hyper-sensitive to Fox leaning right are only that way because they've been completely thrown off balance by the other overly-left leaning media stations. "blame Fox" seems to have become part of the hype. Have you heard of or watch Media Malpractice yet? Have you seen the results of the independent studies they funded? You really should watch it, if you are interested in the subject of media slant you'll find it illuminating.

Is this lens fair and balanced?

    Nope
  • artbymichelle Feb 21, 2011 @ 1:21 pm | delete
I thank you for responding jeffwend. I am just going to assume that you watch Fox news from your comment. That being said, my lens is intended to highlight the FACT that Fox News lies in it's slogan! I understand if you watch Fox news you may not be familiar with the word ( facts ) as Fox tends to avoid them like the plague. My intention for this lens was to point that out, you might not like it, but that is how it is. The question was not is this lens fair and balanced?! The duel question was, do you think Fox news shows bias in its supposed "fair and balanced" reporting? Curious as to why you did not respond in that section? I stated my agenda loud and clear in my opening, so anyone who reads this lens knows what side of the fence I am on. I have nothing to hide. I however find it very disturbing that a supposed NEWS organization can be so absolutely irresponsible, to the point of driving their audience into a panic, using half truth's insinuation, and in most cases flat out lies under the slogan's of "Most Trusted" and "Fair and Balanced"! Trust and facts may not be an issue for you but it is for me. The fact that Fox deliberately misinforms their viewers concerns me as an American! And I feel it is my duty to point it out! If one person stumbled upon this lens and finds a way to see through the propaganda Fox is putting out there, I have done my job! I assume your answer to the duel question would have been yes. I just hope it is because you know that Fox is a conservative organization and reports only what is on their agenda. I hope you choose to watch them for entertainment purposes not because you are fooled by the lies they spew.
  • jeffwend Feb 21, 2011 @ 2:02 pm | delete
I agree completely that Fox news has a conservative bias with their non-news programs like Hannity and Fox and Friends. However, I believe that their true news programs like Shepard Smith and Brit Hume are far more fair and balanced then the other cable news stations.

I feel that those who criticize Fox News do so because they resent any true reporting on political issues.

Unfortunately, I'm sure that neither of us will be able to change the other persons mind and I am fine with that. I just feel that people that bash Fox news should also be bashing every other major newspaper or cable news channel as they all have a bias.
  • artbymichelle Feb 22, 2011 @ 9:02 am | delete
I would have to say it is the complete opposite! My criticism of Fox is due to the lack of true reporting. Bias is one thing and I agree that MSNBC does lean to the left but I would challenge you to show me where you can find them editing video footage or reporting blatant lies. Britt Hume being fair is simply a joke! Shepard smith...ehh, he still parrots the words put out in the memo's. But that is about it! From the morning to the evening the same words and phrases are repeated by every single reporter, commentator, contributor and so on. Usually it is false information and spills over into the public & the other media outlets. Frank Luntz is a great wordsmith, knows how to get the job done. You are right no minds are being changed here. But, I know that I am correct in my assertions, and I think you know it too! :)
  • dotcomboy Feb 23, 2011 @ 3:52 am | delete

The daily lies and propaganda I see on Fox News make it impossible for me to read most of this lens, because it reminds me so much of politically controlled news in places like China. They do such a good job of distorting everything that they've "Foxed" a good portion of the American public!
