I had the pleasant experience of taking care of my brother's red Doberman for 5 months. Before that time, I had never been near a Doberman. I found 'Gideon' to be very intelligent, loving, and got along great with my dogs. He had been mistreated and in a dog pound when my brother found him. I'm sad to report that there are not as many unique dog gifts available for Doberman Pinschers, in comparison to other breeds. I think the incorrect stigma attached to Dobies is probably the reason for that. You know, it really doesn't matter WHAT the breed of dog is..........what matters, and what shows in a dogs behavior is HOW they were trained and treated. Much to my brother's dislike, sweet Gideon enjoyed his stay with me and blended in so well that he joined my other 2 dogs on my bed to sleep at night! Can you imagine that? Me in a queen sized bed, with a very large Dobie, a 50 pound medium mixed breed, and a little 15 pound dog. Ha-ha-ha, good memories!
