What did he say? A Frequently Updated List of Supplements and Products Recommended on the Dr. Oz Show
Dr. Oz seriously rocks. Objective thought and pushing the boundaries of the medical establish is business as usual on the wildly popular Dr. Oz Show. But sometimes the information is presented in such a fast-and-furious manner it is hard to catch all of Dr. Oz's recommendations. I have searched the web and found no relevant site containing a list such as what you will find on this lens. If you visit Dr. Oz's website, you will have to spend time watching show clips if you want to find out what is recommended in each episode. So, since I am a Dr. Oz addict anyway and never miss an episode, I will jot down all of the relevant supplements and provide all the information in a list format so you never miss a recommendation. Make sure you subscribe to the RSS feed of this lens so you will get updates when new information is added, probably on a weekly basis. Doctor Oz Recommends: Glucomannan (Konjac Root), Chromium and Fish Oil

On the June 9, 2011 show, Dr. Oz focused on longevity, aging, and diabetes. Dr. Hyman was a featured guest contributor. For people struggling with pre-diabetes or high blood sugar, Dr. Oz and Dr. Hyman suggested (along with making health food and lifestyle choices) taking Glucomannan, Chromium, and Fish Oil.
Glucomannan:
Glucomannan is an all-natural plant fiber made from the konjac root. Dr. Hyman stated the Glucomannan, taken before meals, helped to absorb excess sugar and fat from food (which would theoretically lower your absorption of both). The dosing on the konjac root supplement was three capsules a day, one before each meal.

Glucomannan Powder:
Generally, it is believed that glucomannan discourages overeating because it creates a feeling of fullness that persists because the fiber in it swells and stomach contents stay in the stomach longer. In most of the research studying glucomannan for weight loss, participants also drank increased quantities of water and followed a reduced-calorie diet. Possibly due to the same delay in stomach emptying, glucomannan may improve blood sugar levels in individuals with diabetes. Because the absorption of carbohydrates from foods is slower when glucomannan is taken, blood sugar levels may not rise as high or as fast as usual. Some preliminary results from animal studies also suggest that glucomannan may increase the sensitivity of body tissues to the insulin that is produced or taken.

Chromium:
Chromium helps to regulate sugar metabolism, and Dr. Oz recommended using it to control blood sugar and help with weight loss.

Omega-3 Fish Oil:
Fish Oil is a potent anti-inflamatory source of omega-3 fatty acids. Dr. Oz recommended taking fish oil with 600 mg of EPA to help with inflammation, diabetes, and anti-aging. (Are you taking fish oil? Please be taking fish oil. It is so great for so many conditions).

Dr. Oz Recommends: Apple Pectin, Grape Seed Extract, and Forskolin

These weight loss recommendations come from the "Five Minutes to Fight Fat" segment on a May 2011 episode of Dr. Oz. Dr. Oz recommended 500 mg of apple pectin before each meal, 150 mg of grape seed extract each day, and Forskolin twice a day to help with weight loss. I am always a little skeptical with any weight loss products, but I have ordered all of these products, so I will keep my readers posted on the results!
Update 6/11/2011: I have been taking the Forskolin, Apple Pectin, and Grape Seed Extract for two weeks now. I have lost 9 pounds! I can tell that it is "doing something." My basal temperature is one degree warmer (I normally stay around 97.3 and now I am at around 98.3), which means my metabolism is working harder. I have done a few dietary changes as well. Namely, a high protein breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up in the morning. For me, this means eating a Greek yogurt with ground flax seed. Also, no calorie drinks. I have lots of great tips I will post for what I am doing.
FORSKOLIN:
Dr. Oz said Forskolin "explodes" fat right out of fat cells and assists with weight loss. I am also going to try Forskolin for weight loss because the whole concept sounds cool! Dr. Oz recommended Forskolin two times a day (50 mg). Most supplements will say something like "10%Forskohlii extract from 250 mg" which would be 25 mg. If you take that twice a day, that is 50 mg.

APPLE PECTIN:
Apple Pectin is an all natural substance derived from, well, apples! Dr. Oz recommended 500 mg of apple pectin at the start of each meal to help slow the digestion of food by making the contents of your stomach more viscous. In theory, this would make you hungry less often. I have ordered my apple pectin, so I will keep my readers posted on the results!

Dr. Oz again invited natural-health superstar Dr. Joseph Mercola onto his show to discuss the best supplements for good health. The segment was entitled "The Surprising Supplement You Need Now." Dr. Mercola emphasized using whole foods to get the majority of your necessary nutrients and use supplements sparingly.
Interestingly enough, Dr. Mercola endorses the "Weston Price" style of eating which emphasizes organic, free-range meats and eggs, organic fruits and vegetables, bone broth, limiting sugar, and consuming fermented products. All of the recommended products are what Dr. Mercola uses in his personal supplement regime. Dr. Mercola said the #1 most important supplement you need, but have never heard, of is Astaxanthin.
Astaxanthin:
Astaxanthin is a natural compound found in the algae Haematococcus pluvialis. This powerful antioxidant has been found to be effective in protecting cell and mitochondrial membranes from oxidative stress. Recent studies have indicated that astaxanthin is more powerful than its carotenoid cousin, beta-carotene, at trapping singlet oxygen free radicals.

Dr Oz's final piece of advice was to try a supplement called GTF Chromium, which helps insulin to do its job by bringing sugar into your cells to be used as energy. And in turn, the GTF Chromium can held keep wrinkles away too!
On the May 20, 2011 Doctor Oz Show, Dr. Oz explained how to turn back time in 24 hours or less. Dr. Oz recommended GTF Chromium to help regulate blood sugar levels and provide anti-aging benefits. Dr. Oz explained that Chromium helps cells utilize excess sugar.
He also recommended wearing a UV Monitoring Bracelet to keep track of your total level of sun exposure.
Dr. Oz recommended eating a peppermint tablet to help calm an upset stomach.

Later in the show, after interviewing Dr. Russ Greenfield, Dr. Oz recommended astragalus to help maintain the "youthfulness" of cell telomeres, which in theory would slow or stop the aging process.

Alpha Lipoic Acid with L-Carnitine
Dr. Greenfield also advises older patients, who are concerned about dementia, take supplement containing both Alpha Lipoic Acid and L-Carnitine.

DoctorOzSupplements.Com Great lens - awesome. My favourite supplement is african mango. I am suprised its not on your list! Cinnamon for reducing blood sugar. Great lens! I came here looking for information on forskolin. By the way, Astaxanthin rocks! Has really improved my eyesight. I had a hard time finding Life Extensions Saffron with Satiereal. Finally found it here at Life Extensions Saffron with Satiereal. Just about every other place has it back ordered. Guess they really sold off after Dr. Oz recommended it!
