Fans in America will be hoping that they's be able to watch the special episode on the same day, just like they did last year.

The Doctor finds himself in war-torn England embarking on a magical and mysterious adventure with a young widow and her two children.

The special, set during World War II, sees Madge Arwell and her two children, Lily and Cyril, evacuated to a draughty old house in Dorset, where the caretaker is a mysterious young man in bow tie, and a big blue parcel is waiting for them under the tree. They are about to enter a magical new world and learn that a Time Lord never forgets his debts...

The episode will feature Claire Skinner, Bill Bailey, Arabella Weir and Alexander Armstrong.

The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe on Wikipedia: The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe" is an episode of the British science fiction television series Doctor Who. Due to be first broadcast at Christmas 2011, it is the seventh Christmas special since the show's revival in 2005.

It was announced as part of BBC Children in Need 2011 that the episode will be called The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe.

Last Year's Special: A Christmas Carol - Synopsis

Staring Michael Gambon, Matt Smith and Katherine Jenkins (2010)

It's the deepest part of winter, the exact midpoint, Christmas Eve - halfway out of the dark. Amy and Rory are trapped on a stricken space liner that's plummeting through banks of thick icy fog to the surface of the planet below.

Only one man has the power to save them; only one man is in possession of a machine that can clear the fog and let them land safely. That man is Kazran Sardick, a rich but lonely old miser who rules Sardicktown with a sky-mast of iron.

The Doctor's only chance of rescuing the ship's four thousand passengers is to save Kazran's soul and show him that life is worth living. For this he needs to go back, way back, to when Kazran was a boy with a life full of promise.

But can the Doctor put a song in Kazran's heart and love in his life, in time for Christmas? Can he bring him out of the dark?

Felt the most recent Christmas was a bit lacklustre, but not as bad as The Next Doctor! - I watched it through though. I wish David Tennant could be resurrected! :-)

Definitely the best Christmas special since "The Christmas Invasion" - which, really, only got super good once the Doctor woke up and started rambling.
