Doctor Who Fan Page (USA Fan)

I am a United States fan of Doctor Who since 1986. I am proud to have been nearly a lifelong WHOVIAN and having never been a Trekkie, although I do love Star Wars, Robert A. Heinlein and other sci-fi topics. This website is meant to include any topic involving the official Doctor Who universe. This includes television shows (Doctor Who classic and new series, Torchwood, New Adventures of Sarah Jane Smith), books, audio series, and movies). This page is not designed to give any spoilers or link to any site that may contain spoilers. I have created a spoiler page here: click here to visit spoiler page.

HELP WANTED! I am very interested in your input on this page. If you know of something great that should be here, please let me know. Please contact me by email at success.brian@yahoo.com with a subject line of DOCTOR WHO.

What Is Doctor Who?

Doctor Who is now officially the longest running science fiction television series in world history according to the Guiness Book of World Records. Doctor Who is both the longest running in number of episodes and number of years running. Star Trek, including all 6 television series, include only 716 episodes. Doctor Who has 752 as of 25 Dec 2008, including one major motion picture, but not its television spinoffs. Doctor Who first aired on BBC in 1963 and Star Trek first aired on NBC in 1966. Doctor Who (now called Doctor Who Classic Series) was ran on BBC from 1963 to 1989 with a one season hiatus in 1987. Many attempts were tried to reinstate the series, including a major motion picture in 1996 titled Doctor Who The Movie. Doctor Who returned to the BBC in 2005 and has now aired for 4 full seasons. 4 specials are planned for 2008/2009 and a 5th season for 2010.

Doctor Who features a human like alien named The Doctor who travels through time and space in his vehicle named the TARDIS which looks like a 1960's British police telephone call box. The Doctor is from a planet known as Gallifrey which was recently destroyed in The Great Time War by one of the show's most fierce enemies known as the Daleks. Gallifreyans are very human like from the external appearance. The only characteristic in which you can easily tell a Gallifreyan from a human is that they have two hearts, where humans only have one. Gallifreyans have many special abilities, however, including the ability to symbiotically link to their own living TARDIS, the ability to know the existance of each other, and the unique ability to regenerate. The Doctor's ability to regenerate has allowed the show to continue and even grow in popularity even though the show's main character has moved on (or gotten sick or even fired) in real life. In all, there have been 10 different actors to play The Doctor.
