Doctor Who Wallpapers
Ranked #6,628 in Computers & Electronics, #128,919 overall
Welcome!
I love the way the show makes me feel about the world and spend most of my time on whovian projects and forums.
I downloaded a free version of Gimp years ago and couldn't make head nor tail of it but finally I persevered and started making desktop wallpapers of all my favourite pictures and thought I'd share them with the Whoverse out there!
They're not very technical and you can probably spot which ones are my first attempts!
Hopefully at some point soon I'll also add some basic tutorials - see if I can't learn something new myself!
So welcome, browse and enjoy!

Step by Step How-to Make a Wallpaper Using Gimp
How-to!
So you've downloaded and installed Gimp, what next?
1.) Browse Google images or free stock photos from morguefile.com or wikimediacommons.com or indeed your own private collection and choose your favourite pics. (remember where you saved them?)
2.) Open Gimp
3.) Go to the first tab and click on "new"
4.) Select a computer monitor size template.
5.) Click on the two colour squares to choose primary and secondary colour.
6.) Use the 'bucket fill' tool to colour one of your new pages.
7.) On the menu line of that page click on filters.
8.) Scroll done and click on 'render' and then 'flame'
9.) A tool box will open. Click on brightness etc until you're satisfied, then go to camera to zoom in and enlarge flame.
10.) Go to edit and click on box at bottom to select the style of flame eg. Heart, spiral etc
11.) A grid of flame filter examples will come up, click on your favourite and keep doing so until you've found the one you want.
12.) Click ok and create your flame.
13.) Now go to menu and click on open to well 'open' your picture file.
14.) This will open another layer page. Go to view and zoom in so you can see the image nice and clearly.
15.) In your tool box click on the lasso icons (looks like a knotted rope and on mine in the three icon) - this is for free selection.
16.) If you don't need to be too careful turn on the feathered edges to about 20%.
17.) Trance the outline of the piece of your image you want to use with the cursor and complete the 'circle' so you finish where you start and left click - the selected portion of your image should now have a running line around it.
18.) Adjust your image portions by going to image -> scale image until it's the right size to fit on your flame background.
19.) On your image menu bar go to edit and click copy and then move to your first page and click edit -> paste and your rendered image should appear (unanchored) on top of your flame.
20.) Click the square select icon (just looks like a square) and click on your image and move it to where you want it.
21.) Touch up if you like by going to the eraser icon, zooming in on your image and erasing outline mistakes.
22.) You're finished so go to layers and anchor layer then save as - save as a JPG file ie. Enter wallpaper name and put .jpg after it and click save.
23.) It will ask you to export, click yes and drag the moving bar to 100% for best quality - You're done!
I will try to do this on video for you but I only have a video phone so might not work very well.
