THE LEGEND OF LEMURIA

Lemuria, although not as well known as Atlantis, still conjures up romantic visions of lost empires and tragedy. Every bit as controversial as it's legendary cousin Atlantis, fewer references are found to this lost civilization. Even the name is not universally accepted. Lemuria may also be referred to as Mu, Pacifica or even Pan. Another controversial question is; If Lemuria existed, when did it exist? Was it contemporary with Atlantis or was Atlantis originally a colony of Lemuria which became a major ancient civilization on its own? The burning question here though; Was Lemuria an actual thriving land in ancient times?

THE LOST CONTINENT - LEMURIA

ALSO REFERRED TO AS: MU and PACIFICA

The story of Lemuria begins with Col. James Churchward and English soldier and scholar. Churchward in his younger days spent some time in India where he learned to decipher Naacl from a Hindu priest. As Churchward and the priest became friends, the priest began to share sacred tablets written in Naacl an ancient symbolic writing. The Naacls were originally priests in India and Burma who wrote more that ten thousand clay tablets to preserve the history of the Motherland, Mu or Lemuria. He was to spend the next sixty years Tibet, Burma and India looking for clues about Lemria's life and its location. He was also simultaneously compiling data concerning ancient ruins, legends and other available sources.

Many think these Moai on Easter Island are a silent testimony that Lemuria did exist. It is thought that Easter Island is the top of a sacred mountain that survived only as an isolated island after Lemuria sank beneath the sea.

If you accept Psychics and Mystics as sources, then in the 1920s, 30s and early 40s some credibility was added to the story by Edgar Cayce, America's "Sleeping Prophet". He channeled information about Lemuria in approximately forty Life Readings and as Mu (used interchangeably with Lemuria) in approximately sixty additional Life Readings.

Believers in Lemuria are convinced that many of the islands in the southern Pacific are the remains of Lemuria in the form of mountain tips from the fabled land. Easter Island is cited as one example of a sacred site that survived. The people of this island retained enough of the knowledge of their fore bearers to construct the Mori in their honor.

There are some that believe the ruins on the islands of Nan Madol and Insaru islands in the Western Pacific Caroline Island chain are testaments to the technological superiority of the Lemurians. These two islands bracket the meteorological "nursery" where eastern Pacific typhoons originate. The massive basalt logs used in the construction of these ruins generate powerful magnetic fields that may have been utilized in some manner to diffuse typhoons that would disrupt rice production on the ancient Banaue rice terraces in the Philippines. These terraces contain almost fifty thousand acres and are ingeniously irrigated. This land could have yielded tremendous food production and might have been the bread basket of Lemuria, a resource well worth protecting from devastating storms.

The existence of such locations as those described above certainly is indicative of an technologically advanced society. Check out the video in the box below for a peek at the ruins at Nan Madol.

"Lemuria & Atlantis: Studying the Past to Survive the Future" by Shirley Andrews

This is the first book I read that specifically addressed Lemuria. Although it presents evidence for both Lemuria and Atlantis, the stories are actually interwoven quite well here. The legendary civilizations of both Lemuria and Atlantis seem to become real as Shirley Andrews who also authored "Atlantis: Insights From a Lost Civilization" has provided details from scientists, scholars and my favorite psychic Edgar Cayce to make her case. She draws parallels between the moral decay of the Atlantean society and our modern society. Ms. Andrews gives some seemingly reasonable explanations for past life memories and very vivid dreams reported by many, from Edgar Cayce's time to the present, about lives lived on this legendary lost land. The factual information impresses while the past life memories provide an entertaining and fascinating addition to this interesting book.

"The Lost Civilization of Lemuria: The Rise and Fall of the World's Oldest Culture" by Frank Joseph

This is the second book on the subject of Lemuria I read. Mr Joseph postulates that Lemuria was the cradle of mankind where it all started. It also has some the most extensive and up-to-date, at the time of publication(2006) archaeological research available on legendary Lemuria. Some of the conclusions concerning ancient technology are fascinating and made believable. He concludes that in some ways certain ancient technology was more advanced than some of our modern technology.

The oral traditional stories from Polynesia tell of a wonderful kingdom in the Pacific area that was overwhelmed by a mighty "Warrior Wave". Of course a "Warrior Wave" was a tsunami. Many other oral traditions mention the existence of this marvelous water kingdom. The stories are found from Australia to Asia and even to the coasts of North and South America. It was most ofter referred to as Lemuria or Mu, a sprawling realm of islands and archipelagos stretching across the Pacific. Drawing upon ten years of research and travel to personally study the facts and legends Mr. Joseph offers us an intriguing picture of Lemuria which he considers to be the original Garden of Eden.

Citing recent deep-sea archaeological finds, enigmatic glyphs, symbols, and ancient records present in many diverse cultures of the world that seem to provide plausible evidence for this remarkable, Frank Joseph re-creates a picture of a society in which people lived in harmony with each other and nature. He also presents evidence that seems to indicate these people possessed sophisticated technology that enabling them to control the weather, defy gravity, and genetic capabilities far beyond what possess in modern times. Fleeing the cataclysmic disaster struck Lemuria, refugees made their way into the world at large, spreading their scientific and mystical knowledge to the cultures of Asia, Polynesia, and the Americas. Mr. Joseph even references totem poles, Chinese architecture, the massive stone statues of Easter Island, and well as the commonalities of perennial world philosophies to prove a relationship to the lost civilization of Lemuria.

"Lost Cities of Ancient Lemuria and the Pacific" by David Hatcher Childress

Another good book that present some credible evidence for existence of Lemuria. Here Childress asks the question; Did a land in the Pacific named Lemuria, Mu, or Pacifica actually exist in the Pacific Ocean in ancient times? To answer the question he provides geological, archaeological and mythological evidence to prove that some sort of ancient and advanced civilization once existed in the Pacific. Mr. Childress did extensive research in Australia, the Indian Ocean as well as the Pacific to uncover some amazing truths about our forgotten past. There are explanations given as to how the Mori statues were levitated around Easter Island as well as discussing the mystery of disappearing islands, the presence of Egyptians in Australia and many more subjects.

* Some think Lemuria may have existed as a civilization as much as two hundred thousand years ago.
* It is suggested that the ancient Lemurian civilization invented writing, medicine, music, sailing, religion, and a sophisticated technology.
* It may be the birth place of humanity and the mythical Garden of Eden.
* Edgar Cayce made numerous references to Lemuria or Mu as well as other ancient civilizations such as Atlantis.
* There are archaeological remnants in the Pacific region that are puzzling as well as being indicative of some sort of advanced knowledge.
* Specifically sites such as those found at Yonaguni, Nan Madol, Insaru, the Philippines, Easter Island, Kunie, Babeldaob, and many other locations lend credibility to the theory that some sort of advanced society held sway in this region long ago.
* It seems whatever civilization was in the Pacific had the means to move very heavy stone construction material and levitate them into positions well above the ground. This knowledge was then perhaps shared with other ancient civilizations, in Egypt and Peru as examples, after Lemuria's destruction and the resulting flood of highly advanced refugees to various locations around the world.
* The artifacts collected by Father Carlo Crespi while in Ecuador are almost without doubt crafted by artisans from some sort of ancient society perhaps misplace Lemurians or their descendents.
* Japan has a Mu Museum, the result of a young Monk's vision in the late 1940s of Lemuria's history and spirituality. The museum stands today on fifteen acres in Kagoshima Prefecture.

NAN MADOL

This is an absolutely fascinating video about an archeological site in or near the Caroline Islands in the Pacific. It is absolutely indicative of an awesome construction in an area where many of the materials used are not readily available. There is not any record of any ancient civilization ever having been in the area in the past five to ten-thousand years.

What it took to build this is nothing short of the accomplishment or Egyptian pyramid building considering the location and conditions. It is definitely worth a look.
