Learn More About add adhd

Welcome to my world, and I wouldn't change a minute of it. Helping others coping daily with add/adhd.  Learn how we have grown through vital information, research, and much more. Thank you

LETS GET STARTED

You"ll find many things on this site, but most importantly, we want you to gain knowledge regarding add/adhd.  We have tried many things over the years, and I must tell you from the very beginning, what has worked for us may not for you.  It is our mission to recommend several things, so you may choose for yourself, child or loved one.  I have found there is not one single thing you can do, in many cases it's a combination. As in ours, instead of medicine, (which he was on for years), we are now focusing on diet, supplements and vitamins, also a tutor. We must help those that unfortunately our society has been very cruel to, here's a little press release that reaffirms my last statement. Statement by E. Clarke Ross, CHADD CEO, on recent remarks made by Britney Spears

Recently, pop artist Britney Spears, in writing about her experiences leading up to her entry into rehabilitation, compared her poor behavior to the experiences of someone with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) by saying she was "like a bad kid running around with ADD." Ms. Spears' comment unfortunately perpetuates one of the many myths and misunderstandings about AD/HD that we so regularly face. Those with AD/HD are not "bad" kids. AD/HD is a neurobiological condition and NOT a moral failure. While we applaud Ms. Spears for seeking help, we hope that in the future she will use a little more sensitivity to others when she is describing her own situation.

Okay, that was a bit harsh, let's turn to something a little lighter. My son got his drivers permit yesterday, HELP ME JESUS, I thought as he floated right through a stop sign. I'll touch on that subject shortly, now let me take you back to the beginning.

God Bless you, remember to keep the faith.

I've found help for my son's adhd

detailed information about add/adhd

The morning was very hectic as usual. Yet I managed to compose myself before entering the room. Glancing at the clock, I had made it on time.
There I was in the midst of this group of experts. I soon became nervous.
This meeting was to discuss why they felt he had attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.
My little man, my very active second grader. Active yes, not hyperactive!
My head began reeling, trying to grasp everything. There must be a mistake.
The psychiatrist gave this example, "as we have sat here, having this conversation, your son would be drawn to the clock, the ticking. Rather than the discussion." I thought to myself, he's seven years old, of course he will be distracted.
Their final analysis, medicine.
That was nine years ago. And it's been a very, very long nine years. Doctors, therapists, different medicines, arguments with family, treatment. Hours spent on homework. My son tapping the top of his head saying, "don't you get it, it's just not there." That broke my heart. It is there, it is there. Always exhausted by days end, only to realize it would be the pattern of our lives.
What causes add/adhd? What could I do to break this cycle. Learn more, I had to become better informed. Looking back I, like most parents did what our doctor recommended, medicine, medicine, and more medicine.
After much research, I have found alternative ways of treating his adhd. I must add, through my studies, each child, person, is different. Although some causes seem certain, such as genetic predisposition, different brain chemistry, different brain structure. Other causes, and factors, conditions of pregnancy and birth, television viewing, attachment problems, are still being investigated.
Resource Review, will teach you things that will save you years of struggle.
In closing, did you know that many highly intelligent, creative people, have add/adhd? These gifted people were typically not well rounded, or shall we even say "normal" people during their school years, we have hope. Let me just do a little name dropping, Beethoven, Jim Carrey, Albert Einstein, Tom Cruise, Danny Glover, Terry Bradshaw, "Magic" Johnson, Babe Ruth, F.W. Woolworth, Bill Cosby.
"The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease." Thomas Edison,,,,,,also on the list. See Resource Review

A question for you.

TEENS ADD/ADHD DRIVING

Let me show you what I found when researching this topic

Individuals with ADHD received more tickets and were in more accidents than their non-add counterparts.
Driving from place to place is a fundamental part of life. Most of us get into a car without even thinking and most of the time we make it to our destination without incident. But, studies have indicated that individuals with ADHD have a more difficult time with safe driving. A study published by the American Academy of Pediatrics compared a group of young adults (ages 16-22) with ADHD to a control group of non-ADHD young adults.
According to this study the young adults with ADHD were:
More likely to have crashes
Have more crashes
Have more bodily injuries associated with crashes
To be at fault for more crashes
To receive more traffic citations, especially for speeding

ALSO SUGGESTIONS TO KEEP THEM SAFE AND FOCUSED

Keep the cell phone in the trunk of the car while you are driving. You will still have it with you for emergencies, but this will require you to stop somewhere in order to make a phone-call.
While some drivers say that some background noise can help them concentrate, others become very distracted by music. To avoid changing stations or fiddling with the radio while driving, decide before you start your trip, no matter how short, what you will listen to. Use CDs and plan accordingly so that you do not need create a distraction by changing the radio station.
Try driving during off peak times. Traffic jams or heavy traffic can be stimulation overload, causing the driver to become easily distracted.
Objectively look at your driving habits. If necessary, car-pool or take public transportation to reduce the amount of driving time.
Plan your trips in advance. Getting lost or trying to hurry to overcome lateness can cause distraction and possibly an accident. Try to always leave earlier than necessary and give yourself plenty of time. If you do get lost, pull over somewhere to look at the map, rather than trying to do so in the midst of driving.
Invite passengers cautiously. Passengers can be a major distraction while driving. Think carefully about who you want in the car with you while you are driving. Choose who will sit in the front seat and don't be afraid to not drive if you feel you will be distracted by those around you.
