Avatar The Movie IS The Metaphor For Life
I just came back from seeing Avatar. Because I spent a period of time hanging out on Second Life, and believe it or not, Second Life is where I met Joan4, the whole concept of Avatars is something I experienced. It's not just a concept.
It's an experience.
I related very closely with my Avatar, Mooie Infinity. I was fascinated by the idea of disabled people using Second Life as a visualization tool, as it were, so that people who could not walk could learn to walk again, because they sent an Avatar out before them to make walking look easy, fun and possible.
And that is exactly what our hero did in the film--and much, much more.
The Blond Dog featured in most of the modules is Ulysses, my surviving dog.
Mukunda is featured in the last Module, an ode to all of his mischief!!

The Death Of A Dog/God
Who Really Isn't Dead
Sheila Audet was on our show, "MoonMooYou: The Collective Wisdom" and did the Astrological Charts of my two dogs and interwove them with my own. Less than a week before, my dog Mukunda, passed on in my arms.
Muki's sun is conjunct my moon, so we have a connection that will go on forever. Mukunda is my spirit guide, I think, and my totem. We chose one another. We hook into each other like the animals and Avatars did in the movie.
Muki's moon is in Aquarius as well as several planets. He has a bowl configuration in his chart. He did not have to come back but he did so because he had important things to teach my husband Tom and I.
His chart is exactly the same when he passed as it was when he was born.
Ulysses moon and Mukunda's moon are conjunct. Ulysses also has a bowl configuration but on the other side of the chart as Mukunda's. Ulysses Neptune is on top of Muki's Mercury. The two dogs are completely tied together and are in constant communication.
Hero's Journey
Dear God/ess, Today I am thinking about my own hero's journey. Seeing John Cameron's movie Avatar brought this up into my consciousness.
What is true for me is to allow my sixth sense and spirit become dominant in the way I relate to life, other people and the animals coming in and out of our lives.
Trees are as important to me as people or my dogs. Tree spirits are as alive as you or me. Never mistake the silence of a tree as a nonentity, for one time I walked into the forest of freshly downed old growth trees and heard their cry.
I cried with them.
The trees in the movie Avatar were mythic. Their roots connected to all the other roots of all the other trees and originated at the center of Gaia Earth, where all the possible healing in the world took place, reflected within the inner hearts of all people and living beings.
The Conestoda River that flows by our house is a living breathing and constantly changing life form, with light dancing over and in every crystalline drop of water.
Nature is at the heart of my own hero's journey. The whole of nature flows through these prayers. God/ess is in every rock, acorn and ripple of river current.
The worship of nature is what I loved most about the movie Avatar. The fact that it's an anti-war movie is refreshingly significant, as well.
Most of all, it stirs myth and dreaming deep with in the psyche and helps the entire audience wake up to their own dream potential.
Om, Peace, Amen

The Hero's Welcome
It's Not What You Think
Dear God/ess, After seeing the movie "Avatar," which I consider to be a metaphor for life and a model for archetypal exploration, I asked the following questions: How do I see the extra-ordinary in the ordinary, the beauty right in front of me, the gratitude amidst apparent obstacles?
How do I wake up and stay awake without judging those who do not question their own lives? (Is it even true that they do not?)
A sense of the heroic is missing from modern day life.
How do we get it back?
How much of the hero's journey is fate and how much is free will?
The simple intention of uniting self-will with Divine Will can gently put an end to the angst involved with these questions. Our true birth begins when we truly experience Letting Go, Letting God and the resultant spiritual awakening takes care of the rest.
The life that is waiting for us is not in a hurry. We need not rush to get there, for it will always Be: The changeless within the constantly changing; immortality within the finite universe; the duality which when transcended, IS the Hero's Welcome!
Om, Peace, Amen
Dogs Are Avatars, Too!
,Dear God/ess, I am still thinking of the mythic, heroic archetypes still pouring forth in my mind's vision from the movie "Avatar."
And what better resource to turn to than Carl Jung. Jung believed that archetypes live in the collective unconscious where all souls are connected, where the connection lives through story, myth and legend. Some of the more common archetypes are hero, judge, liberator, lover, martyr, mediator, mentor, messiah, monk/nun, midas/miser, healer, mystic and many many more.
Working with these archetypes helps us see the greater meaning of our lives, the larger perspective, the Big Picture, taking all of us into account, not just my or your tiny corner of the world.
As we work with these symbols, we suddenly see in a new way. We begin to see with symbolic vision. Emotional and spiritual wounds heal more quickly and we learn to trust in the Divine Timing in our lives: that the right people show up at the right moment, and the flow of Divine Blessings is never ending.
We learn, as I did this week, that our dearly departed dog, Mukunda, was a channel of great transformation in the nearly thirteen years he shared with us, orchestrated by other dearly departed loved ones. In the time Mukunda spent with us, both Tom and I got sober and evolved on a spiritual plane much faster in those 13 years than we ever did in all the previous years put together.
Yet as it turns out, the divine works through our animals to teach us Universal Truths of life and to connect us with our mission here on the earth plane.
I was born to be a channel for God/esses' loving energy.
I learned this from Mukunda.
Om, Peace, Amen

Beauty
Dear God/ess, I am thinking of beauty today, for nothing is as beautiful as the moment at hand, barking dogs, flowing water, the brown mud of a January thaw.
Yet some of the people who go to the movie Avatar suffer from what I call Post Pandora Depression Syndrome. The movie is so exquisitely beautiful that people are struck by the contrast to their own lives. Certainly, Avatar is the most beautiful movie ever made. By comparison, perhaps, life is drab, relationships continue with vibrations of bitterness and resentments, and knee jerking, button pushing responses.
Angelic Presence has something else in mind. The fact that a human being could create something as drop dead gorgeous as the movie Avatar is a miracle of human potential.
The beauty of life is in the eye of the beholder. Beauty is a choice. It is an attitude. We can see it in everything or miss it by worry, anxiety, too much thinking, too many details thereby losing a sense of the Overall Design. We may forget that God/ess is in everything, which in and of itself, is beautiful.
Beauty is revealed in a simple prayer, a chant, a song or mindful step, with a loving dog bounding past giving the gift of a side-long glance of mirth and joy.
You are also beautiful.
And so am I.
Om, Peace, Amen
How To Make Sense Of Mukunda's Death
Dear God/ess, Mukunda died in my arms last night.
In this moment, I feel a separation from my beloved dog. I feel his presence in another dimension, but he is no longer tangibly at my side, or lying at my feet.
We no longer will take our walks by the river at all times of day and night.
His incessant ball playing, barking for attention, his boring stare right into my soul, is now a facet of my memory.
Ulysses, my other dog, the Golden Child, or Bird Man, was cool with the whole experience. Keeping Mukunda home to die was good for Ulysses and also good for Tom and me.
We barely slept the last week and often, I thought Mukunda was in labor. He breathed himself into the next realm of his journey.
Dear Angels, thank you for helping me mid-wife my old dog into your arms. I knew you would be there when the timing was right.
And you were.
Thank you, Om, Peace, Amen

The Amazing Grace Of Quiet
Dear God/ess, The stillness of this house after the passing of Mukunda is absolutely stunning. I thought the house was quiet before, but now I know that the presence of Mukunda was an all pervasive one, ever present, always inquiring, ever vigilant, infinitely loving.
All of this is a miracle. Staring into the eyes of Ulysses as a meditation is a miracle. He is telling me something I am willing to receive. I think, What a lovely face. He really is a beautiful dog.
Our walks today up to Mukunda's grave, around and back to the river were quiet, too. I heard his breathing as he effortlessly ran down the hill and up again to meet me. I see that even as he nears nine years of living, his agility and spark is youthful, still, but his age gives him the wisdom to listen to my words and comply with what I ask of him.
Looking into Ulysses' eyes, I smile.
Looking into his eyes, I am reminded of an Angel, who wants to take me home.
I willingly go.
Lessons Of Dog Avatars
Dear God/ess, I am thinking about all the lessons the animals teach us.
Always Unconditional Love, for starters.
Grace in illness and the awesome ability to nurse their own wounds also comes to mind.
When they pass on, we learn that life is an ever changing kaleidoscope of impermanence. We learn that our moments with them here in the physical will come to an end.
We also learn that their playful spirits are with us still.
I watch Ulysses as he follows Mukunda's spirit across the room with his angel eyes.
I see Ulysses pause before going up the steps to let the spirit of Muki go before him.
He also pauses to let Muki in first before coming in the door.
I learn to see by looking into Ule's vast vision. He takes what he sees as commonplace. He always was a Piscean Dreamer. Other worlds are his to wander in. Death holds no barrier to his ability to experience life.
These are the lessons I want to learn.
These are the lessons Ulysses is teaching me.
Om, Peace, Amen
Goodbye For Now, My Friend
Dear God/ess, This is you as a 3 year old pup, Mr Man. You were one of the intense Ones. You herded our sheep up the lane, across three properties and into the golf course--then you disappeared. I led the sheep easily back to the house.
I remember praying--please, please come back.
And when you did, you knew you were in deep doodoo. But I was so happy to see you again that I just hugged and hugged you, but of course you nipped me on the nose.
Then I remember the time you herded our sheep Daisy May into the river and she swam across and had an adventure in downtown Lancaster, PA!
Thinking back over your puppy and youth years, I think--How is it possible we survived? You or me?
But we did and now you've gone over to the great beyond.
I will always remember your intensity and this picture reminds me.
Please remember me and nip my nose again when we finally meet.
Om, Peace, Amen.

- Muki has healed many. Reading his story through your eyes I felt the One dog that connects us through the heart. I felt him in my arms as he passed and I felt him walk through. Such ineffable peace. I loved your description of Ulysses following Muki's spirit form- how do we not see these things for ourselves? We could find so much comfort there. Angel blessed and featured on November Blessings under Pets and healing.

I feel as if Mukunda is sitting by my feet, as if there is only One dog that joins us all in love. I'll be featuring on November Blessings under pets and healing. Love you Muki-

I love how you see your dogs as avatars as well. I recently had a cat die by my bedside and it was an honor to share the journey with him. I love the letters to God/ess. Overall it is a superb lens and very worthy of the purple star. Lensrolling to my Web of Connection lens.

- Hi Kate - congrats on the purple star and a lovely lens. I cry everytime I read your writings about Mukunda - your writings about him are truly exquisite - so full of love and insight. As for Avatar - yes a beautiful movie - the script - well, you know my thoughts on that. But, that's what art is for - not eveyone is going to have the same interpretation or impression with every piece but if it touches one person the way the artist has intended - then the artist has done a great job!

- Kate, as a fellow pet lover, I felt the exact same thing you did regarding the special electric connection that forms when the animals and natives bond/hook into one another in the movie -- except that you articulate it so much eloquently than I can ever do. Beautiful Muki's playful spirit will forever live on, in your heart and in those of the lives he touched (much like when Grace's spirit joined that of the Tree of Souls). *blessed by an angel today*
