It's My Party (even when it's not)
Since we brought her home we have celebrated her birthday every year. My husband insists on buying her toys and treats and wrapping them up with birthday paper. And of course we must document the event with pictures.
I always wonder what she's thinking as she's tearing through the paper.
OK, I'll close my eyes and tear this apart slowly. I just hope it's not another rat!

The Dog's Bed
We bought this bean bag for the dog when she was a few years old. Within twenty minutes we took it away from her because she chewed a whole through the cover and was working her way through to the meat.
Last winter my husband took it out for her again but she showed no interest in it. One day we happened to look over and found her sister Suzie curled up enjoying the heat blowing over her from the vent beside it.
Guess who wants the bean bag back?
Dogs always make their bed so comfortable, puuurrrrr puuuurrrrr, hope he doesn't want it back for a while.

Staying Cool in the Summer
German Shepherds have a thick undercoat all year round. One of the best ways to keep cool in the summer is with a kiddie pool. It's easy to empty and tuck away when needed but holds enough water to keep her feet wet.
I replaced Shelby's old pool with this new elephant one last summer. She thought the elephant nose feature was as cool as I did.
Well, if they think I am getting in there after the elephant has peed in it, they have another thing coming!

When Shelby was growing up we went through a lot of toys until we discovered the Kong. It is virtually indestructible. And she loves to play it. We use to put peanut butter in when she was little but now she's happy to chew it, bounce it, bury it, all on her own.
Strange Facination with Tubs
For some reason Shelby has a fascination with tubs that are not in our house. If we are in a hotel or are visiting and she disappears we are always sure to find her in the tub. Meanwhile at home, you would think we were torturing her by putting her in the tub.
Got my magazine, got my shampoo now if somebody would turn on the water...

The Crazy Ball - Working for a Treat

I think this was a Christmas gift from the in-laws. We've had it so long I don't remember. Every night before bed we add about ten tasty treats and she rolls it around trying to get them out. It's good for at least thirty minutes of distraction. She doesn't go a night without out and knows it by name. When we ask "where's your crazy ball?" she goes off and finds it.
Couch Potato
When there is no company and she's in the house the couch is hers. She is actually looking over the couch toward the door waiting for her dad to come home. Sometimes she does this at night when we are both home and we wonder what she's thinking.
I've been laying down for a long time...I see triple the sheep than I did the last time..
