Dog Food Containers
By Pauline Rausch and Robert Davids
If you're like me, you love your dog!
Dozer keeps me company when I'm out in the garden, protects me from that mean old mailman, sleeps by my bed at night and generally makes me feel loved and safe.
I buy the very best dog food for him, because I want him to live forever!
But in order to keep his food fresh, dry and pest-free, I needed to find the best dog food container available. I wanted this container to be airtight.
There are lots of dog food containers on the market, but they aren't all airtight. Reviews have indicated that even the airtight containers may not be airtight after all!
Reviews for the Rubbermaid Pets Scoop'n Store 21 and 24 inch containers with 1.5 cup scoop that stores in the lid, and the IRIS Airtight Food and Treat Combo Container with two separate compartments for food and treats have both been very good. The IRIS container comes with castors for easy movement.
Prices for both the Rubbermaid and IRIS dog food containers are in the neighborhood of $25. The larger Rubbermaid container holds a 40-45 pound bag of food, and the IRIS (bottom) container holds about 30 pounds.
Several people have indicated that they use both of these containers for large bags of dog food as well as bird seed and horse feed, with excellent results for preventing unwanted guests including moths, mice and ants.
I opted for the IRIS dog food container since I liked the two separate units and the wheels. (It's available online through Walmart, and they will ship it to your home for a fee, or to your local store for free.) I keep Dozer's rawhide chews and his treats in the smaller top container and his dog food in the bottom. The tops seal really well, and I have not had any trouble with mice or bugs in either container.
The wheels allow me to roll the container into and out of my pantry with ease, and the lid opens nicely, just a little past the vertical so I can scoop out kibble as needed.
While this IRIS container is not specifically for dogs only, it's been the perfect solution for me!
Pauline really loves her home and family and lives life to the full and has been writing about her knowledge and experience. Feel free to see some of her material at Dog Food Containers and Pet Heating Pad.
