Does Your Dog Love Dressing Up?

Halloween costumes are not for all dogs. Some dogs are embarrassed and horrified at the thought of wearing clothes. Others feel exposed without them. My Standard Poodle, Sarah, took about three weeks to decide that if I got dressed in the morning, she would, too. She stole one of my shirts and actually tried to put it on. For her, Halloween costumes were a big deal. If we all dressed up, she was going to do it, too. She would even pick out the outfit she wanted. My other Standard Poodle, Rocky, thought costumes were dorky and hid if we dressed him up. So, before you dress your dog in a Halloween costume, consider it's personality.

A Team Effort - Dog and Child Halloween Costumes

We used to dress up like our dogs. One year, I had curly hair and a frilly dress and so did my dog. Another year, we dressed up in Scotch plaid. My brother and his dog went as the Blues Brothers. Does anyone else do that or were we really strange kids?

Dog Halloween Costume Safety

Dog Halloween costumes can be cute and fun. Make sure you keep them fun by checking for safety issues before you dress your dog up. A few things to consider:
* Fit- A too small or too big costume can be very uncomfortable.
* Dangerous pieces- Little bits and pieces that aren't securely attached can come loose and be chewed or even swallowed by your little pal.
* Visability- Just like children, dogs should have reflective or light colored costumes when they are out and about. Even if they are on a leash, it is important that they can be seen in the dark. Imagine how horrible it would be if your dog pulled its leash free and ran into the road in a dark colored costume and a driver didn't see it.
