Dog DNA Testing

People who love their dogs and would do anything for it and are interested to find out what their pet is all about and what are its origins can actually get a Dog DNA testing done for their beloved pets. Dog DNA tests reveal the dog's bloodline, and whether it is a pure or a mixed breed. Vets believe that more than 50% of the dogs are mixed breeds and t it is also true in America. Just by looking at the dog nobody can tell if the dog is a pure or mixed breed because the possibilities are high that a lot of dogs look alike but they belong to different breeds. Now a mixed breed between these look a like's is an impossible task to achieve.

Dog DNA testing is also very helpful for serious dog lovers and people who are passionate about dog shows and contests. The kennel clubs can also use the DNA data to identify genuine pure bred dogs and mixed breeds. This also further helps them to identify the individual characteristics of the dog and why it exhibits certain traits. The DNA test involves collecting a blood sample from the dog and compares it to the standard breed DNA sample. According to the American Kennel Club the DNA samples from nearly 3200 dogs which cover more than 134 breeds.

Just like humans, dogs have genes and the genetic composition of the dog is important to some of their owners. Usually a dog DNA test starts at $40 which is conducted by the American Kennel Club themselves. The kennel club keeps a record of over 100,000 dogs and also certifies dogs every year as pure breeds.

Dog breeding is a profitable profession where dog owners involved in this business have to get a certificate of authenticity of the dog breed from the respective kennel clubs. Only then will they be able to breed the dogs and also register the pups born to them. The pups which are born to pure bred German Shepherds or Labradors are tested for DNA samples to see their lineage.
