All Dogs Deserve to be Healthy
Jake often has to spend time at a local kennel. We are lucky to have found a great kennel that takes special care of our little guy. The kennel has a strict policy of all dogs being vaccinated against kennel cough, or canine tracheobronchitis in an effort to keep all the dogs healthy.
Sometimes your best efforts aren't enough and uh oh, you think your dog may have kennel cough. What are the symptoms? What are the medication options? How do you care for a dog with kennel cough?

What is Kennel Cough?
Your dog's health is a priority.
Kennel cough is a highly contagious class of viral and bacterial ailments which can spread quickly among dogs in close quarters, such as in a kennel or veterinarian office. Kennel cough can be difficult to diagnose because it is both viral and bacteria, much as in human bronchitis. So if you think your best friend is showing symptoms such as a "coughing" or raspy breathing, please consult your veterinarian. You may want to call rather than visiting the office so you don't expose your dog to other infections and your dog doesn't infect other dogs.
Prevention is the Best Solution for Your Dog's Health
A teaspoon of sugar helps the medicine go down
The best medicine is an ounce of prevention against kennel cough. Your dog will require a series of vaccines that have been developed to guard against the various microorganisms responsible for the scary coughing and choking, including the parainfluenza virus and Bordetella.Once kennel cough has been contracted, your companion will need a treatment course similar to a human infection. Antibiotics are prescribed if bacterial causes are determined. Your dog will need extra rest, clean all his bedding and be kept away from other dogs for a time.
A Healthy Dog is a Happy Dog
Smile!
If your dog is a frequent visitor to kennels or is exposed to other dogs on a regular basis, it is likely that they will come down with kennel cough at some point in their lives. Fortunately if you recognize the symptoms, take action and with a little extra loving attentions, your buddy will make a speedy recovery. Read more about Dog Health
