Homemade Dog Food Recipes

Puppies and older dogs will have different types of nutritional needs and you need to ensure your dog or puppy has sufficient consumption of these nutrition for a long and healthy live. 1. No Preservative, Artificial Colors and Flavors
Natural dog food contains no preservative, artificial colors and flavors. Consumption of these components may be harmful to your dog's health if taken in a long run. Avoid those that labeled "chemical additives as a source of flavor". Carefully read the pet food claims that are usually written in huge letters across the bag. They'll be terms like "well-balanced," "all-natural," "complete" or "100% nutritious." These claims must be proven and you should find the feeding test statement on the bag.

2. Raw Meat and Type
Avoid brands that labeled "ingredients include meat by-product". Raw dog food contains all natural and unprocessed ingredients. A healthy raw dog food meal usually contains 40% meat, 30% fiber and 30% starch.Choose one that made from natural meat such as chicken, lamb or liver.

Ingredients:

1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 cup rye flour - optional
2 1/2 teaspoons dry yeast
1/4 cup warm water
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 cup cracked wheat
1 teaspoon salt - optional
1 egg
1 cup chicken broth - slightly warmed
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

How to Prepare:

Find a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. Then, add salt, one beaten egg, and the warmed chicken broth. Put in all flour except the all-purpose flour and mix well. Slowly add all-purpose flour until a stiff dough is formed and it can be kneaded by hand. Knead for only a couple minutes, just enough to get the dough to hold together. Roll out dough about 1/4%u2033 thick and cut with cookie cutters.

Then, place biscuits on a large cookie tray and place directly in a 300 degree oven, they don't need to rise.Bake for 45 min. and then turn off the oven.You can let them sit in the oven overnight and in the morning they will be real hard and good for your dog's teeth.

Ingredient:

1 tsp. salt
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
3 cups oatmeal
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1 cup wheat germ
Baking sheets
1 1/3 cup margarine or butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 1/3 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 lb. bacon, crumbled into bits

How to Prepare:

First of all, mix the bacon, eggs, bacon fat, water, powdered milk, wheat germ, graham flour and cornmeal in a large bowl with a heavy wooden spoon. The mixture will be very thick.

Then,put heaping spoonfuls of the bacon bit mixture on an oiled cookie sheet and flatten them slightly.Bake the bacon bits at 350 F for 15 minutes.

Finally, leave the bacon bits in the oven to dry overnight, with the heat off. After that, you can crumble the bacon bit treats into bite-sized chunks.Store the bacon bit treats in a sealed container

Vitamins and Minerals
Most high quality dog foods contain a sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals, therefore, supplementing isn't necessary.

There are two types of vitamins - fat soluble (vitamins A, D, E, K) and water soluble (vitamins B and C). A deficiency in any of these vitamins can lead to poor growth, digestive and elimination problems, poor eating, a weakened immune system and smelly fur. Extreme deficiencies can lead to Addison's disease, thyroid malfunction or sterility.

Puppies
When it comes to puppies, a diet with a good balance of protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals, is all that is required. Choose a dry food designed for puppies, but be sure to avoid brands that push a high protein diet. Senior Dogs
As dogs get older they slow down and so does the body's ability to process its food. Therefore, dogs older than seven years, which is the age dogs are generally considered to be seniors, require diets that put less strain on the kidneys and are that lower in fat.
