Dog Care

Having a a pet dog is a wonderful experience but in order to keep them happy and healthy, you have to be prepared to care for them properly.

As with any animal there are many different types of dog care that you need to be aware of, particularly if you own a dog or are thinking of getting a dog. Allergies can be a big concern particularly since dogs allergies tend to arise from airborne allergens that then settle on the skin and lead to rashes. Besides treating allergy symptoms it is also important to prevent allergies. This can be accomplished by bathing your dog regularly as well as rinsing their feet after they have been outside.

Dental care is also extremely important for dog care and if ignored can lead to some very serious problems. Dogs need to have their teeth brushed just like humans and the following are some helpful tools that can be used to keep your dogs teeth and gums clean and healthy. Dental treats, dental toys, dental solutions, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other tools are all useful when caring for your dog's teeth. Many of these items can be found in dog care dental kits.

Dogs can have many issues with their ears and ear care is particularly important over the summer. Build up and moisture in the ear can cause many problems including infections. You can use products that are designed to keep the ears dry, such as ear powder, to kill mites that may infect the ear and additional products that remove waxy build up and other dirt.

You should also be aware that dog's can have eye problems and keeping the eyes clean is very important. Dogs can be plagued with conjunctivitis which is a very common dog eye infection. To keep eyes clean and prevent infection you can apply protective ointments and cleaning solutions that kill bacteria and protect the eye from irritation. You should check frequently to make sure that your dog's eyes are mucous free, carefully trim the hair around their eyes and keep your pets away from activities that may result in eye trauma.

Additionally as your dog ages there are other god care issues that may arise. No matter their age a dog should exercise but as they get older the exercise should be for a shorter time period and at a lower intensity. To protect their joints they should change to sleeping on a foam bed, older dogs also have different nutritional needs and you may need to switch their dog food or supple your dog with supplements. As your dog gets older you need to keep a sharp eye out for any behavioral changes as this may be a sign of something more serious.
