Fall is here, soon winter will come and the dogs need training!

Suddenly fall is here. This is the time of year to complete the "summer training" goals. This summer I wanted to REALLY work on my dog's training and on my own training, and I have faithfully gone to the weekly practice date furthermore, I enrolled Phoenix in obedience...again. It never hurts to set up this sort of thing for yourself. Even if you don't think you NEED to do these things, (your dog is already trained...you don't have time....etc., you always have excuses) it is a GREAT IDEA to setup a weekly practice "date" for yourself.
Another thing might be to set a goal for something NEW you are going to train your dog to do in the upcoming winter. For me and Jenna, it will be working on cadaver scent and honing up and fine tuning her alert on cadaver, which can be done indoors, (and also playing hide and see with toys in the house) while for Phoenix it will be working (beginning stages) on cadaver scenting. But for anyone even if your dog is "only a pet"...how about teaching your dog a new trick? Set a goal. It makes life more fun and entertaining for your dog, and gives you quality bonding time with your dog! A GREAT trick is to teach a dog to turn on the light by using peanut butter on the light switch. I might try that this winter!

What a person won't do for their dog.......

Can you top this???

Tonight Phoenix was lying full out in the doorway. She had the fan on her. (yes, I am STUPID, I had the fan turned on, in cold weather, because my DOG likes the fan!) Anyhow. Jenna needed a drink. She got up and went to the door and stood there. She just stood there. She would not step over Feeny's prone body. Not even over her rear feet. But she needed a drink. She woofed at ME! I had to get up, go move the couch (well, I didn't want to disturb Feeny, now did I??) but when I moved the couch, about one foot, there was just barely enough room for Jenna to squeeze by Feeny's outstretched feet, so she could go around her, get out to the kitchen, drink her water, and come back to bed on the dog couch, which she did, and promptly went back to sleep.

Cute lens. Don't know if I could ever top you but I sure am getting tired of my Dixie literally pushing me off my own bed at night because of my husbands insistence that she have a comfy nights sleep at ALL costs. ;)

Thanks for the good advice about the four legged member of our family. This is our first Christmas with a dog so your advice is very helpful. Our Christmas Tree is now back up on the coffee table in the corner of the room so our dog can't it tip is over or destroy it. Lensroll and 5 stars you for.
