dog friendly places in florida

fun places in florida to take your dog!
"off leash" dog beaches and parks, and other places that mukha and i have discovered that are fun.

mukha is a weimaraner and my best friend! we live together in orlando. we love to go to beaches that allow dogs like fort de soto dog beach near saint petersburg and flagler beach. we also like to go to the dog park in orlando.

we really want to check out ft myers and the cape san blas area this summer.

here are some pictures of and details about some places that we've been to, including restaurant info.

a key on the west coast of florida with white sand and clear water.

lots of dogs having a good time.

we have always met nice people there.

the beach is a decent distance from the low traffic road.

the water is clear and shallow for a long distance out, and there aren't a lot of waves, so everyone can just play in the water at ease.

the best day to travel there (from orlando) is sunday because there is less traffic. it takes around an hour longer any other day.

#1 beach in the world ;)

as of july 2007:.
dogs are allowed to eat outside at a japanese restaurant, tokyo bay. the outside eating area is in the back on a balcony overlooking a lake. they have great sushi and it's well priced. we ate there with no problems :) it's really close and great to eat at on your way home! from the dogbeach it's about 7 miles up the road. it's open 5-10pm sun-thurs, 5-10:30pm fri &sat, closed monday

dogs are not allowed at 'sandbar'. however, if you want to eat in your car with your dog, you can order and they will bring it out to you.

in april there is some season in saint petersburg when dogs are not allowed to eat outside at restaurants. april 8th is one of the days of that season. we ordered food at 'moon under water' and ate in our car. there is a little park with awesome banyan trees across the street.

flagler beach

on the east coast, north of daytona.

this beach is really good if you just want to go hang out at the beach with your dog. there aren't many other dogs or people.

the areas where dogs are allowed is huge; anywhere north of n. 10th st and south of s. 10th st. on a1a.

the beach is on the side of the road, but down a little. there are steps that lead from the road down to the beach and a wall of big rocks that were added a few years ago.

the sand is coarse and orange.

the waves are unpredictable. last time we went the waves were so violent we only got in briefly and mukha wouldn't get in at all! we have played in the ocean there in the past, though.

there is usually a strong undertow.

don't throw anything into the ocean here and expect to get it back!

the year before last we went to 'the golden lion cafe' with mukha. they would only let her eat there if we tied her up on the other side of the rail by our table. we didn't want to do that, so we didn't eat there. if you know a weimaraner, you know that they are human, not dog, and naturally have to be right where the humans are!

we just take a cooler and snacks to flagler beach :)

it's really close to baldwin park, which is dog friendly. i think dogs are allowed outside at all restaurants...
baldwin bark & meow supply, a pet store in baldwin park, sometimes has "yappy hour". free dog beer for dogs and wine for people.

Most resturants in St Petersburg with outside dinining allow dogs. We also have two nice dog parks in town Cresent Lake and Vinoy Park. I am enjoying your pictures, your dog has a great expressions and you have a good eye.

PS Tokyo Bay had great sushi, and they were really nice to our dog!
