Our Dogs - Love of Snow Days

A tribute lens to our wonderful rescue dogs
Wanted to share with you our experiences of our second long cold winter in this remote region of eastern europe.
We highlight our trials and tribulations and how we all survived (just about) cabin fever from being housebound and lived through the minus -30c prolonged icy periods.
Long cold winter's take a toll on all of us, young, old even our beloved pet's and animals need extra care and attention during the winter. Our dog's just love to go running in the pine forests that surround our city. Strangely enough we never meet another person or dog but we do on occasion meet the odd wild deer or lynx and Harland often ends up tracking some wild boar trails left over from the night before.
Our Amazing Dobermann

We were lucky enough to find Harland in a dog rescue shelter back in 2009. Falling in love with him instantly was easy. Dealing with his issues have been a challenge. Once we left had the UK and relocated in Poland he has not only settled down, but he has become our Saviour. When my partner Robert, fell on the ice and broke his collar bone, Harland quickly became Robert's nurse and companion, never leaving Robert's side for almost six weeks while he recovered. Strangely enough Harland went through a similar accident a few weeks earlier after being shunted by a car he too needed complete bed rest.
That said this year has to date been much easier to deal with other than cabin fever (being confined to the house for weeks at a time) there has been no nasty accidents.
Tribute to our Dogs
for keeping us sane this winter
Harland has a girlfriend her name is Nui Nui she came from a dog shelter we help out at here in Poland
Nui Nui - abandoned at the roadside
Left for dead in a cardboard box in a layby in -20c Weather

Nui Nui came to us by sheer chance. We were at one of our regular visits to our local poor excuse for a dog shelter. She was cowering in a corner and shivering with fear after spending a night bullied by some larger dogs. I immediately took to her and we agreed to adopt her on a temporary basis while she recovered. Once we got her home after a check up at the vets, Harland decided that not only was he going to mother Nui Nui but also there was no way he's was letting her go. An amusing site, the two of them running through the pine forests side by side Harland charging around like a wild animal. Nui Nui delicately side stepping to avoid being trampled.

Ourpets DT-10504 Smarter Toys IQ Treat Ball , 5 Inches , Colors may vary
Amazon Price: $8.79 (as of 05/31/2012)![]()
This ball is great for my three and a half year old dobermann. I give his breakfast through this ball, and it keeps him occupied for 20 minutes total. The ball won't fill up a whole cup of kibble, so I have to fill it up two times. This ball takes him longer and tires him more than the Tug a Jug, which only takes him about five minutes to empty. As he empties the ball twice, he will pant and go lap on some water. It's good to see he's getting some kind of work for his food as opposed to just chomping it down from the bowl with no effort.
