Remember to start while your dog is young.

Dog, just like humans, start learning at a young age. As a puppy, they soak up new information like a sponge. They need to be trained to do things while at a young age in order to integrate the information deep in their subconscious. This ensures that the dog will not unlearn the tricks they need to learn.

Always be patient

Remember that training will take a good long time to finish. It won't just take a couple of weeks. It will probably take months if not years. Also, some things need to be constantly taught. That is, a dog may unlearn something if you teach him something contradictory. For example, if you taught your dog to stay off the couch, keep on doing so. If you let him on the couch once, then he or she will think that it's okay and thus will unlearn what you painstakingly taught him or her to do.

Be Prepared

Don't make the mistake of being unprepared before training your dog. You must choose the perfect place and the right equipment such as leashes and rewards. Remember that if you make a mistake in your training, the dog might learn not to respond to training as a whole. You will have a hard time training him or her after a few blunders.
