This has been such good advise, reading about Dakota has been just like reading about my 1 year old german shepard! we are hoping to gradually train her to be left home alone will full roam of the house- but for now just one room would bew a start! she really didnt take to crate training, and destroyed it!! so im thinking this could be better. Thank so much for the tips!

Dakota update: She now has full run of the house even on our workdays. This puts her being home alone for 9 hours sometimes and she's aced it. We didn't rush this and made sure she was ready for each step upward before progressing and now I'm so doggone proud of her :-) She really has become an amazing, fun dog who brings us joy and laughter instead of frustration as it once was.

You are AWESOME dog owners!! You did a fantastic job, and without that, Dakota would not be the dog she is today! Congrats! I am very proud of you all!!! Best of love and wishes..Kim

Dakota is now 5 years old, and she has a friendmate Sierra, who's about to turn 2, another rescue :-) Both dogs have full run of the house, together, TOGETHER, and they are incredible! No problems at all! We couldn't be prouder! :-)

Thanks!! This really helps. Im hoping to someday have my 1 year old border collie be allowed to have freedom of the whole house while we are at work and this gave me a lot of advice on how to get him there.

Another great lens in a very informative series (may I suggest that you include a guestbook on Part 1)... you are being featured in Retired and Rescued Dogs and Their Owners.
