Dog Muzzles

Dog muzzles may seem barbaric or even cruel by some, but the reality is that dog muzzles are extremely effective and versatile tools used to train and socialize your dog. By using such a tool, which is in fact built for comfort, you can train your dog with patrolling, guarding, playing and orienting themselves with other dogs.

The purpose of a dog muzzle is not to harshly confine your dog's snout nor is it simply for excessively vicious dogs. While it is useful for aggressive breeds, it is also helpful in simply training your dog to be more trusting by muzzling your dog and then socializing them with other dogs and strangers in public places.

While it provides a sense of comfort for you and those around you, it also ensures the safety of your dog from self-inflicted injury (such as wound licking), injuries from other dogs and potentially dangerous materials such as garbage, chemicals and rocks.

Dog muzzles are not available for every dog as not every breed requires a muzzle for protection, safety or training. Certain breeds simply benefit from dog muzzles more than others. These breeds include American Bulldogs, Bullmastiffs, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Pit Bulls and Rottweilers. These dogs are all especially loyal and protective of their owners and can, if not properly nurtured and trained, become particularly aggressive.

For each of these dogs, there are several various dog muzzles available as well as different styles. For those of the leather persuasion, simple leather muzzles, leather basket muzzles, "Dondi" style muzzles (which are somewhat trendy looking) and super ventilated leather muzzles (that provide additional air) are snug, durable and padded for comfort.

Chrome wire muzzles provide unbeatable ventilation for dogs. Airy and open, it allows dogs to freely sniff, lick and drink without obstruction. Depending on your dog, a well ventilated wire muzzle may be a better fit than a leather one.
