5 basic orders for family dog training

Dog is a special pet that can learn and understand rapidly, where is the best and worst thing. It can alter behavior through experience which it had gotten, so we must know "how dog learning is".

In the family dog training, there are three points that each other have a relationship. They are: stimulus, response, and reward.

There are two kinds of stimulus, common and uncommon. Uncommon stimulus, such as: food, will cause uncommon response naturally. Common stimulus has a relationship to the family dog training and causes common response. To get the best result is equating common response to the uncommon response.

The last point is reward, such as: food, flattery, or punishment. It is a consequence when dog does or not fill an order, which you had previously spoken, as like as you want. Simple words, it is a "stick and carrot" method.

Teach, test, and assure

Actually, all basic dog training technique adapts to a dog temperament properly, so the most important thing that must be noticed is all family dog training has basic similarity.

It means that we try to communicate with doggie, "...Do what I want and you get what you want..." We can apprise it by a language as like as the explanation below.

  • Teach by motivation
    Commonly, a thing to motivate dog is food, which has a function as a main reward. In addition, to get the best result for family dog training is familiarizing a doggie to use a collar.

  • Test under a pressure
    Test is an important thing in the family dog training. Without test, dog will obey an order only in the specific condition, such as: in the house. #1 Come

It is the first order that must be instructed to dog. In the early time of training, make the family dog training becomes attractive and fun. You can use a food or toy to motivate it.

Doing this training, as the first step, is showing a food to dog. After that, try to run and call it name. Almost of dog will chase the caller to get food.

To test "come" order is going to the little crowd place. Let dog roam for several minutes until not attends you, then try to call it name and order to "come". Give a reward and have a little play if dog comes to you.

Actually, the assurance of this training is similar to the "come" order training and testing. That difference is only for the place that we've been taken.

#2 Sit

"Sit" is important order. It gives you benefit to control dog in many places and activities, such as: pet health care or cross the road.

In this training, as an enticement, use dog favorite food. You can entice it by handling food in your right hand. Then, move your hand upward slowly. ("..I'm sure, dog will attempt to reach food"...). When dog had heightened it head, push it shoulder with your left hand to make dog on the sit position. Next, give it a reward.

Sit position test is done by stretching up a dog rope for about 2-5 seconds. If dog moves from sit position, pull up it rope lightly until back on sit position. If still not yet understood, help dog with your hand without any words.

Assuring "sit" order is done perfectly, do it at the different place. When dog already knows and understands any word orders, try to order only for a time. If dog does not obey your order, punish dog as it consequence.

#3 Down

This is an important order when you want to leave dog for a moment. You can bind it at a pole and order to lay down, then leave it calmly.

To train this order is positioning dog on the stand up position. Entice it by it favorite food handled on your left hand. Next, move your hand downward slowly. Actually, dog will follow your hand to reach food.

"Down" order test is done as similar as "sit" order test. That difference is only for the position.

"Down" order assurance is done as similar as another position assurance that had been previously done. Once again, that difference is only for the place that you've been taken.

NOTE :At the first time of training, please help dog to lay down before it can be done by dog itself. ("...Possibility resisting or unwilling to lain down are frequently happened, but don't care about it. Stay focus on your main goal...".)

#4 Stay

Do you often hear "stay" order? Or maybe you give "stay" order to your dog? Actually, It's important to know about "stay" order. this order is never used because every word order has a "reaction" as a response to a word order. For examples : "sit" order is a sit position, and "down" order is a lain down position until the next order.

When you're ordering dog to "stay", it will not move from the last position. For example : dog had done "sit" or "down" position rightfully, then you order it to "stay". So, the last position of doggie is staying or not moving from the last position.

#5 Side

"Side" order is asking dog to walk at the left side of you without pulling a dog rope. Don't forget to use food as enticement.

To start this training is handling food with your left hand, whereas the right hand is handling a dog rope.

The first step is ordering dog to "sit" at the left side of you and then giving reward for many times. Next, try to walk and help dog with handle it food in your left hand. If dog walks to your left side, give a reward, such as: flattery "gooood, side", and a food.

To test this order is trying to walk together with dog which must walk at the left side of you. If dog walks on the turn condition, pull it rope as needed until following you. Next, don't forget to give a reward.

If dog walks on the front side, you can turn left 90° directly to slice dog stripe. You also can do fast reverse 180° followed by pulling it rope without any order words. Dog will be walking together with you as soon as possible. Don't forget to give a reward.

Side walk is important if you've walked together with a big dog. By instruct a dog to walk on the left side, you will be not doing a "tug of war" with the doggie.

Actually, an assurance of this training is giving "side" order to dog at the different place.
