Dogs Do The Darndest Things!

My Dog Does Some Funny and Annoying Things...But I Still Love Him!

My dog Snoopy is my best buddy. He comes every time I call. He goes (almost) everywhere with me. However, he is a weirdo. I think I'm going to buy a nanny-cam because I'd like to see how he accomplishes what he does when I leave him alone. After writing a lens about "Cats Do The Darndest Things," it eventually occurred to me "wait a second!...DOGS also do the darndest things!"

Please, add to the list below and make sure to vote for your favorite.

He insists on accompanying me everywhere, then won't get in the car.

He needs an engraved invitation in order to enter the car. Sometimes I have to pull the car to the end of the driveway or even out onto the street to follow him and get him in.2 points

He (pretend) buries things.

That's not funny, just typical, right? I knew the dog was up to something fishy so I crept up to the doorway to watch him and with his front paws, he jumped back then forward, back then forward many times. I was watching for awhile a short time ago when I had a few extra minutes to figure this out. I was just rooted to the spot because I've never seen anything so goofy. I tried to tape this but he always catches me. Trust me it's hilarious.2 points

He watches feet and gets super-excited when we put our shoes on.

He knows when we're going out. He is smart.2 points

He scratches at the water dish when it's empty.

I sincerely try to keep the dish full, but sometimes it's empty and before I can even get to it, he's pawing at it (and the cat's standing in it).1 point

My nephew's dog has a "stink buddy".

He backs up and jumps around in a circle to stink it. I don't know if this is typical, and it's kind of gross. My sister's family of course doesn't promote this, but when he did it, I laughed so hard, they allowed me to keep watching, tape it, and make up a song to it. If she allows, I'll post it below.1 point

My dog is afraid of leaves.

He avoids them at all costs, whether they're moving or not. I think it's the noise they make when blowing around?1 point

The "lazy sit" or "Pittsburgh sit".

He sits up on his bum. This started when we lived in Pittsburgh and the window was slightly too high for him to stand there and look out. My nephew taught his dog this trick.1 point

He turns into a puppy when we get snow

Usually all day long, Snoopy finds his spot on the couch, or his spot in whichever room I'm in, and takes a snooze. But when we go outside - look out! He is running around with his tail straight up in the air, burrowing his nose into the ground, and prancing around like a show dog.1 point

My dog steals the bread off the counter.

I don't know how he gets the loaf of bread off the bar, or way back on the counter, it's pretty high. The cat must help him in exchange for a favor.0 points

He leaves cookies in our beds.

Why? We can't figure out if it's to say, "I missed you while you were gone, here's a cookie!"; or "How dare you leave me alone, I'll show you, here's a cookie!"0 points

11

My dog reminds me of Courage the Cowardly Dog.

Courage is always the only one that knows that something bad is happening and saves the day. Then Eustace calls him, "Stupid Dog!".0 points

12

Snoopy from the Peanuts Gang is "Joe Cool".

I love how Snoopy is cooler than anyone in the gang, especially his owner Charlie Brown.0 points

13

My dog is at constant odds with my cat.

My husband will allow him to chase the cat, I will not. So usually, he lets the cat slap him around.0 points

For More About Snoopy...

Check out my daughter's tribute lens to him!

My 11-year-old daughter recently joined Squidoo. She made the cutest tribute lens to our dog, Snoopy. Yes, we love to put birthday ribbons from presents around his neck to make him look festive on birthdays!

FUNNY CATS vs. FUNNY DOGS

Cats and dogs both do funny things. Which are funnier? Give an example if you choose.

Which pet is funnier?

CATS! No contest...

hotweb says:

It used to be dogs, now it's cats

tandemonimom says:

Cats are funnier, because dogs love to be goofy and silly and don't care a bit! Whereas if a cat does something undignified they'll just walk away and ignore it as if it never happened.

LissaKlar says:

I wish there was a place to put a third choice, then I would say both. When forced to choose, I say cats because I think they're devious about it and that's funny to me.

Dogs! No contest...

YourIslandRoutes says:

Dogs! My Jack Russell is always coming up with something new. Lately, she runs up, hits my toes several times with her paws, then she jumps around, leans forward and points her butt at me. She's watching me with her crazy face the whole time taunting me with her butt. It's hilarious!

bames24 says:

dogs are definitely funnier... ours love to "pretend fight" (we have two dogs) every time it is time for their walk... they growl and run after each other just to get our attention and see who gets his leash on first... drives us nuts!

tiff0315 says:

I'm a sucker for dogs

skiesgreen says:

Kittens certainly are hard to beat but my dog is always funny, especially when she spins 360* in the air and when she plays.

ohcaroline says:

I think dogs do the funniest things. They're easier to understand.

My dog is a cuddle bug. She seems to think she's a lap dog, at 35 pounds. I'm glad she's so lovey though!

My dog was able to open the door and let herself out. She was pretty amazing because she would let the neighbors upstairs dogs out too!!

Great lens, and cute dogs as well!

We do not have dogs as yet, I am trying to make a full time living from home so that we can move into our own rented place in May/June and then we are getting 2 springers! Lovely friendly dogs. Can't wait!

This is really cute and yes, my pups have their own idiosyncrasies too :) My female dog acts like she needs to go out just to get the male out the door and then she stays inside :)

It just occured to me that Snoopy and Eddie from the Frasier show have a very similar attitude. I would have voted for both of them.

Our German Shep[herd Max is really funny. When we let him out he tears down the garden barking, as if to say "I am Max, hear me roar". When I come in from work he picks up one of my shoes, lets out a strange crying/singing noise and dances around me in circles.

Snoopy looks just like my late pet ("Doggie McGee"). I never knew her breed cuz she was a stray. Can you tell me Snoopy's lineage?
  • LissaKlar Feb 15, 2011 @ 1:00 am | delete
Sorry- hadn't checked my comments! We believe Snoopy is part bassett hound and part terrier - that's all we know because we rescued him:)

My little doggie pal Mudkip burrows under the covers with me when I'm sleeping. When he does that, he shows up in my dreams too. Don't ask me what I would do without my little doggie buddy in my dreams.
