Very resourceful and helpful tips for dogs. Last month, one of our puppy had seizures and we just don't know what to do to help her. Glad she recovered after a few days. Terrific lens for people like who are searching for some answers in dog health related issues.

my siberian husky puppy was on 6 months old when she had her first seizure and it was definetly scary and it was a week and 2 days later that she had 2 more seizures. i am very worried about her and cant really afford to take her to the vet right now and i don't want her on those awful drugs, so i'm going to try the easesure if she has another seizure.

Wow thank you for making this page. My little Yorkie has had 2 seizures and both times it scared me to death, but I just stayed with her till she could see again. I am going to try the EaseSure.. never did the drugs, just gave her valerian.

My dog has seizures, but doesn't sound like the ones listed. She's conscious and prances around (her legs go stiff) She starts walking sideways trying to regain the use of her legs. Once she fell over like a fainting goat. Her head will shake and she breaths heavy. All of this while conscious. We tell her to lay down and just let her rest while it's going on. We are trying to figure out the triggers for it. I think it's excitement induced/stress induced.

My 2 year old pug is on pheno. and prozac for his severe separation anxiety. His anxiety is so bad with me that he has seizures. This is a very interesting lens. I would prefer natural remedies. I will look into the info. you've given. I am also going to take behavior classes with him as well.

    I have a question...
My dog (Hes a 7yr old English Bulldog) has been on Pheno for 4.5 yrs. He was diagnosed with Epilepsy in Jan of 2007 He started at the dose of 30mg 2x a day...now he's at 105mg 2x a day. He just had his check up for his blood work and every thing is elevated pretty high. He's also on 20mg of Prednisone every other day for skin problems. This can also cause problems, but he's only been on this since November. His Dr. is talking about switching him to Keppra because it's been pretty successful, but will depend on cost. The other choice is Potassium Bromide. I've read what you've said about the above. Do you think it would be possible to take a smaller dosage of prescribed meds with Easesure. He's just been on meds for so long that changing him up is going to throw him off. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!!
  • flowergardener Jun 6, 2011 @ 9:37 pm | delete
    Hi Zanetta :)
I cannot claim to be a veternarian, but you do pose an important question that I believe my partner company experts can answer about Easesure! From your comment, I also see the need to add a link to this page for you and anyone else that may have questions.....I can't put it here in the comments, because the module doesn't allow links, so you'll find it on the page just under the gold picture of the money back guarantee.

My dog occasionally has panic attacks. We thought they were seizures, but the vet feels that is not the case. They happen mainly when she gets spooked or over stimulated.
  • flowergardener Mar 21, 2011 @ 11:24 pm | delete
Well, hopefully your vet has helped your dog's panic attacks? If not, I'm sure there's a natural dog medicine that would!

WOW! What an amazing lens. It looks like you've spent hours and hours building a great quality and very informative page.

Thank you so much for having so much information in one place about doggie seizures. One of my dogs has seizures and the first time it happen I was terrified. Understanding what is happening and what to do about it makes properly handling a seizure easier for me and far less stressful on by beloved dog.

I found you on google. I was looking for a better way to help my dog Jack with his seizures. He is currently on k-brovet 500 and we still have break through seizures. Giving him a higher dose just does not help. I refuse to let them use other medications becuase they take away everything for him all he does is sleep and become disoriented. He has grand mall seizures they say are idiopathic. The real reason he has them is he suffered sever brain trauma at 4 weeks old when he was mauled by a lab. He had a fractured skull. broken jaw and lost his right eye, so how they come up with idiopathic(which means no know cause) I have no idea. I am looking forward to trying the combo pack of ease-sure and pet calm with him with hopes he can live a long healthy life.
  • flowergardener Sep 12, 2010 @ 4:09 pm | delete
Bless you Coco for loving a dog that others find hard to care for! I wouldn't want Jack on any more meds either if he was mine. Animals can be so cruel at times, I've got a little guy that was attacked by a much much bigger dog & had a stroke in my arms. Please DO come back and tell us if the natural medicine for seizures has made Jack's life easier! God's Love and mine, Deb

Oh gosh ... I guess I never really thought about dogs having seizures ... what about cats? Are the affected with the same types and frequencies?

My 13 yr. old cockapoo just started having seizures nearly once a day, a total of 4. Her body can't take the stress of these episodes lasting 3-4min. She is basically having the grand mall seizures. The vet did blood work and everything was normal except for an inflamed liver and possible brain tumor because something is blocking light from going into her right eye. Don't want to put her on drugs and thinking about putting her down. I would be willing to try something natural but need something quickly because she can't take what this is doing to her. Thank you to all who have shared their personal stories. I now know how emotionally helpless this leaves you feeling.

When our 22 mo. poodle/wheaten terrier suffered a petit mal seizure, I consulted with a holistic vet. He prescribed a tablet called Gastrodia 9 which is supposedly a combination of Chinese herbs meant to cleanse the liver. I started giving them to my dog approx. six weeks ago, and thankfully she has had no further episodes.

Our thirteen year old Airedale started having seizures last fall. She had three within a
period of a few weeks. We took her to our son-in-law, who is a chiropractor in Oct.; and he adjusted her. She was seizure free until this morning. We plan on taking her back to the chiropractor for an adjustment. Good luck--it can't hurt.

I had wanted a puppy for a long time, so my mum and dad bought me a lovely little pup (Alfie) and we ended up buying his sister too (molly) they were two lovely puppys. They seemed fine untill after there second baby injection. (sorry not sure what they are called) All of a sudden one night i went to go see them and have a play about, But alfie started to walk funny i thought nothing off it of first but then he fell over and looked really spaced out. This is when i started to worry. I sat and held him in my arms and he started to have a really bad fit. His head was tilting and his eyes were rowling i started to cry as i didn't understand what was happening he continued to do this for about an hour i really thought he was going to die, and his sister molly had started to get really distressed as she didn't understand what was happening. He toatly stopped and just gave off a few whimpers it was too late at this time and the vets were not open so we thought we would take him first thing in the morning. We took him that morning and the vet said it didn't sound like anything he had heard before. He gave us steroids for him to take and said we had to go back. He had another fit that night and we video'd it to show the vet what he was doing. The vet had a look but still didn't really understand. This is basically all the information we recived from this vet, he eventually recommened putting alfie down. I wasn't having this and we took him to another vets which we had used before to see if they could give us any help. The first time we went there they noticed he has some huge spots around his mouth and nose they said they needed to be treated quickly, they weren't so worried about the head thing that he was doing. Alfie seemed to change after going to this vets. He still wasn't toatly better. Then disaster strikes, Molly starts to do the same thing as Alfie i couldn't believe it i was so emotional. I couldn't believe i had been this unlucky to get two ill pups. We had to start taking molly to the vets and they treated her and Alfie on steroids they said that it wasn't a good thing putting them on steroids at such a young age. They both were not getting better, this vet however was not going to give up and helped us as much as possible he got speacilist in to have a look at the puppies to see what was wrong, but they couldn't understand what it was. The one day we were at the vets and explaning what brought on the fits, so we told them it was normally after they ate or if they got excited. Then he said he wanted to try them on a different medication, it was for epilepsy, this was kind of a bit of a relief had they found somehthing that was going to work? Molly and Alfie are currently still on the Epilepsy medication and i can see a lot of improvements. They aren't fitting as much, and they don't last as long. I am so happy we have found someone to help us. Molly and Alfie are only 6 months old and its a horrible thing for them to have, but lets just hope they will get better:)

We adopted a poodle/wheaten from the animal shelter in November. She is 20 months old, and seemed to be in excellent health - frisky and interested in everything. Four days ago, at bedtime, she began acting strangely, no obeying commands and panting with rapid breathing. We set out for the 24 hr. hospital nearby, and by the time we reached the hospital, she seemed to be feeling better. Doctor called it a focal motor seizure, and suggested we take her to our vet the next day for blood work. Most of the results were good; we are still waiting for the thyroid results. I am concerned that the vet will want to put her on some of the medications shown on the web page to have serious side effects. Has anyone tried the natural route and seen improvement? Love to hear from you.

My 10 year old Boxer had a seizure for the first time about 5:30 this am. I was so freaked out I was crying and panicing and just could not get it together until the spasms stopped. After a couple minutes, he stopped seizing and although his balance was a little off, he seemed totally ok. Then he had another at 8:30am. This one only lasted seconds and I was able to remain calm and talk him through it. Then about 12:30 this afternoon, I let him out to go potty and he had a seconds long seizure outside. But this time, his left leg will not stop spasming. My vet said to give him honey in case his blood sugar is low and he also said to give him 2 25mg benadryl, which I'm waiting for my mom to bring. I know from working in an ER that seizures are common and usually not life-threatening, but it's hard to not just react emotionally in that moment. I'm noticing that if I massage his neck where I feel that muscle contracting, it stops the spasms. Well, I can't do that all day, although I'm trying to. lol

I have two 5 month old boxer puppies that are brothers from the same liter. Now the one brother we believe is having seizures. His body gets really tense and he falls over he begins to drool and he keeps his eyes open. This just started to happen. He has had 4 today! He doesnt even seem like his happy little self anymore! When they end he usually seems real out of it and lost. They say (the vet) that he has epilepsy but I hear thats just an excuse because they really have no idea!I feel so helpless like i can't do anything for him but watch! Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions!

Hi Vlada: Just had some trouble with my 6 month golden lab having a seizure and then still having some small tremours when awake. sleeps well. unsteady on feet may be from the valium. He had the seizure on thursday night - first seemed to have been spooked then kept shaking and thenhe did end up having a seizure took hime to vet and he had a 41 degree temp. got it done sent him to an animal overnight emergency to be monitored. he did have a bowel movement and there were alot of eggs in his stool, we have been up to date on his vet visits diligently. vets were not sure why the seizure they seemed to not relate the two worms and seizuress until my first vet had a colleague in office who had worked in a third world coutnry were they were not up to date on vaccines etc. anyhow they have changed the way they are giving his medicines now they are giving it to him every 5 seconds mixed with the iv drip and the valium as opposed to hourly. he still has tremors.

My 9.5 yr old lab has a problem that I can't figure out. Every now and then, she will start sneezing repeatedly for 5 to 10 times (even with a little blood showing on the floor, the blood just started). After that she drools constantly for hours (usually 4 or 5 hrs). She also seems scared and won't leave my side. I think it's seizures but am not sure. I took her to the vet a couple years ago and they ran blood test but everything came back normal. It's hard to know exactly, b/c I don't notice anythings wrong until I notice the drooling. I'm usually at work, or she's in the back yard until I get home or she comes to be near me. I just started noticing the sneezing attacks before the drool. This last time was the first time I've ever seen a little blood from the sneezing. After the drooling stops she seems fine again. Has anybody ever had a dog with this problem? She's getting old and this started about 4 years ago and happens 2-3 times a year.

My dear sweet little rat terrior Roty had seizures from about the age of 2 or so.And she
was my best friend.I had her on what I thought was the best for her. My husband and I went to town and then went visiting on Sat. and when we came home my Roty had a swollen neck that looked as thought it had fluid in it and it would go up and down called the vet but he would not see her ( it was in the middle of the night) advised to watch her and if her throat swelled to much to give benadryl said not to unless we had to as benadryl would or could cause seizure. We gave her a half dose and then the next day she started having seizures so we found a doggy er and took her they gave her a steroid and some anitbiotic (Clavamox) said what we had thought that she was probably biiten by a spider. On the way to the vet she seemed to be better more alert. And then when we left she seemed just happy to be going home.. She passed away next morning. My heart is broken .. I miss her

I recieved some great info on how to comfort dog through siezures.
History: I have a dalmation lab mix age 11 55lbs having siezures for last 5 or 6 years sometimes 2 or 3 times a month sometimes none.. anyways
if you put an ice pack on spine a couple of inches from tail ( i guess that is where kidneys are) it helps your pup get their adrinal glands working again, cause when they have siezure it really over heats their system. also after siezure give them a spoon of vanilla ice cream.
I tried the ice the other day and my pup's siezure was over within a minute, i haven't tried ice cream. normally siezures lasted about 3 minutes

We had a Wheaten who had Seizures his whole life at 14 he had a stroke and died. I will always wonder if the two were related. Most of his were mild and being very familiar with human epilepsy I could see similarities.

I have an 8 year old pug bug. He had his first seizure in February, 2008. I have had him on potassium bromide for at least 9 months and it helped for a while, but then my pug started having seizures once a day sometimes twice within 6 hours. I discontinued using the potassium as it was not doing anything for him, and was causing him to mope around. Now I have him on natural herbs and he is experiencing one every three weeks. He also has some of his energy back, like he plays with his other dog mates. I will continue with the natural herbs to see if I can get rid of them completely, hopefully!

I found this website and have been reading up a lot on dogs having seizures. We experienced our first seizure back in June of 2008 and of course immediately took him to the vet to see what was going on. Put him on Phenobartial and did well for about three months. Had another seizure and once again took him to vet. upped his level on Phenob. since then he has several cluster seizures (every 6-8 weeks). Our last cluster seizure was January 30, 2009 where we then put him on 200 mg of Potassium Bromide once a day along with two 34.4 mg pills of Phenob twice a day. My dog is a miniature schnauzer and he is approximately 3 years. I am really thinking about trying this easesure med to see if all possible that the seizures either reduce dramatically or at least do not happen but once or twice a year.

Hi - this is a great lens - i had a lab x kelpie (passed away now) who had seizures, several of them in fact. I willnever forget the first one he had - we had no idea what was going on, the grand mal ones. he was so disorientated when he came out of it that he got quite aggressive - but soon calmed down because we talked him around. It's terrible to watch them go through it :-( - he was on phenobarbitol for a while but it never totally got rid of them. We changed vets and we were eventualy able to get it under control with other medication. I wish we had your info back then it would have been good to know of a natural remedy. 5 stars to you :-)

Great lens. Thank you very much for all the information. My Chocolate lab Lex has had "Epilepsy" since he was 2, he's now 5. I hate the term epilepsy because it just seems to be the term they use when the vet has no idea whats going on.

I had a female German Shorthaired Pointer that had seizures. The first time it happened I thought she was dying. I took her to the vet and they said it was a seizure and we never did find out (officially) what caused them. She would have one every 6 months, usually and whenever she knew she was going to have one she came looking for me. I'd hold her and pet her and talk to her calmly until it was over. Once it was over, she acted as if nothing had happened. I had to put her down two years ago due to cancer in her throat. She was my first dog...and that was the toughest thing I've ever had to do.

    5 Stars...
