Get Rid Of Dog Worms Safely

Dog worms: you'll find information about the most commonly used pet meds here for dog worms such as Heartworms, Tapeworms, Roundworms, Hookworms, and Whipworms; and all their harmful side effects! What? You didn't know that the wonderful, most popular, and most prescribed dog worm pet medicine for Heart Worms (Heartgard!) has harmful side effects? How about realizing that many of the dog worm meds, like Sentinel®, Interceptor®, Revolution®, and Iverhart also have harmful side effects? Read On and you'll never give your dog those pet meds again!.......

All dogs must be given preventatives each season for Heartworms, so the reason this page exists is to help you become informed of the different types of dog worms, the side effects of available heartworm and dog worm medicines, and a much better natural herbal medicine that's an actual preventative Heartworm medicine without harmful side effects!

What do I mean 'actual preventative'? Ha...that's another bit of creative sales hype the harmful pet meds want you to believe they accomplish.

I actually received a comment from a med student/vet-in-training stating I was misleading people, because the approved dog worm medicines I list with their side effects (get this!) are guaranteed to be effective for removal of dog worms if used right. Bull-ony (bulogna) I say, what a bunch of technical word twisting!

I think it's pretty funny the hateful comments this lens receives quite regularly. This page is meant to help inform you of your choices for treating dog worms & to open your mind to the possibilities that there actually COULD be pet medicines that are just as effective as 'big pharma's' drugs, without harmful chemical ingredients.

Does My Dog Have Worms?

Dog Worm Information

When it comes to getting rid of dog worms, many people head straight for over-the-counter treatments, many of which are excessively harsh and often less than effective. I have to admit that I was a dog owner that also chose to use an over-the-counter dog worm medicine. Yes, they're cheaper; but no, they didn't work for me.

Conventional de-worming treatments are chemically based, whether you buy them over the counter or from your veternarian, and can be harmful to your dog in the long-term. Continual treatment of dog worms with conventional over-the-counter products can also weaken your dog's immune system

Does My Dog Have Worms?

Symptoms of worms in dogs may include:
Gastrointestinal disturbances
Scratching, particularly around the base of the tail
Mild to severe coughing
Poor Appetite
Loss of energy
Anemia

An animal with a healthy immune system will be less likely to become infected with dog worms, including heartworm. Mosquitoes are less likely to bite healthy dogs. In addition, the healthy animals own defense system is able to kill off the larvae of any heartworm that may enter the bloodstream, thus preventing them from reaching maturity and causing harm.

Factors that will weaken your dog's immune system include frequent vaccination, commercial pet foods, incorrect diet, stress and even conventional heartworm and other synthetic medication.

Heartworms

Heartworm Disease is a very serious condition. Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitoes. Canine heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) develops in the mosquito. Many different species of mosquitoes can carry heartworm larvae, so controlling the mosquito is not a feasible method of prevention.

Prevention of heartworm infection is much more preferable than treating it after the fact.

Adult dogs should start receiving a heartworm preventative treatment shortly before the local mosquito season, and continue treatment until two or three months after the season. Dogs that live in warm climates, such as Florida, should be given heartworm prevention continously. Puppies can be started on preventative heartworm treatment as soon as it is safe, usually by six to eight weeks of age.

Tapeworms

Dog Tapeworms

The Tapeworm Dog Worm

Adult tapeworms may reach 8 inches in length. The adult worm is actually made up of many small segments about 1/8 inch long. As the tail end of the worm matures, the terminal segments break off and pass into the stool.

Roundworms

Dog Round Worms

The Roundworm Dog Worm

Some signs of a roundworm infection are weight loss, decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, a pot-bellied appearance in puppies, and a weak appearance in adult dogs. Puppies can die with serious roundworm infections. Roundworms are also infectious to people!

Hookworms

Dog Hookworms

The Hookworm Dog Worm

This dog worm gets it's name from the hook-like mouth parts they use to attach to the intestinal wall. They are only about 1/8" long, but despite their small size, they suck large amounts of blood from the tiny vessels in the intestinal wall.

To read more about the symptoms and signs of Tapeworms, Roundworms, Hookworms, and Whipworms, plus their conventional treatments, more information on each type of dog worm, and the worm medicines used, (including their side effects) please come visit my new website, Dogs and Worms.com

Whipworms

Dog Whipworms

The Whipworm Dog Worm

Any dog with chronic diarrhea can be reasonably suspected to have whipworms, regardless of several negative stool examinations.

Just before leaving Puerto Rico when I was in the Navy a gal gave me her dog named Sheeba. When we returned to the states I knew something was wrong when she did not act like her normal bouncy self. Diagnosis: Heartworms! The treatment is harsh, the poor dog went through h e double l after the conventional treatment of strychnine injections to kill the worms! Sheeba lived through it, although we have a few gray hairs over it. Prevention is key! Thanks for sharing all this great info!
