A HUGE thank-you for writing this lens! My little Ladybug Schnauzer recently nearly died from a dual infestation with hookworm and whipworm. Then my little diabetic senior Koby Schnauzer caught them... luckily I had already treated all the dogs so he didn't get quite as sick. Dogs can DIE from these worms! They are a very dangerous problem that can kill your dog, so please take them seriously everyone! I have been looking for natural alternatives to use as preventives and your lens is immensely helpful. Thanks again, and blessings to you today.

poor dogs indeed who have this, earned a 'thumbs up' from me for writing this.

My mother administered heart worm pills and applied flea/tick topical to her dogs and cats
faithfully and each of them ended up with horrible ailments, including her.
One dog lost ALL of his fur and
not a single vet could explain why this would happen to a "seemingly" healthy dog. Another dog
kidney's gave out with no warning signs, he was OK one day and had to be put down the next.
This was a young animal. My mother herself had horrible skin reactions in the form of a
rash on her hands due to the topical flea/tick medication. How are you supposed to "not
get it on your skin" after applying it to your pet? By not touching the animal.
I took me a decade to realize that administering what is poison on regular and continual
basis WILL take its toll on both the animal and the owner.

I realize that heart worm is genuine problem but it appears that the long term impact of these
medications are FAR worse. But of course most vets do not want that you will no longer
spend hundreds of dollars a year on these items so of course no alternative or even
    constructive alternatives are offered.

Oh Jessie, everything you've stated is SO true! - and thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Most of the prescribed drugs that are used for heartworms have a double duty, as the manufacturers state they also take care of other dog worms. This page is kind of like a 'lead in' now for my other website, which does list those drug side effects. I feel kinda bad that I couldn't state all the information I have on both places, but the search engines don't like duplicated content. I even have a newer article, which lists even more bad side effects, and it's on my Facebook page - there's a banner to visit it above.

You have a very well presented page here and I'll be sure to visit your personal web site.

On another note, I can imagine that people would disagree with you because, in their minds, taking a natural approach to healing sounds outdated, when medications can simply be purchased or prescribed.

Granted, I do take medications for the occasional headache and occasional strep throat; however, I do have home remedies/natural remedies which work effectively for various conditions.

Well, it was just a couple of days ago that mom received her Rx care package for PePe the cat. Mom opted to do a home treatment on PePe for some kind of worm.

I can only reinforce how good natural and homeopathic remedies are having used them extensively on my lovely Rottie and am still using on our aging horse Todd. I used homeopathic heartworm exclusively on my Rottie and she never had one and I also used homeopathic worming as well. I found if I used conventional worming she got worms within 2 months without fail whereas I never saw any using the alternative and its much kinder to their systems. You have a great page, Ive enjoyed it and hope my comments have helped.

Gosh I wish I saw this lens about a month ago. I pet sit and provide petcare services for lovely pet owners and their babies. One of our babies had tape worms. I was searching all over the internet for natural, curable, and safe treatments.

I know know that I will be returning to your lenses often. Great lenses. Very well done.

    Thank You,

Thank you for this and all your natural pet care lenses. People need to wake up to the harmful side effects of phamaceutical drugs for pets ( and people). dogsandworms.com is a great little website. You've done a great job with it. Everyone with a dog should bookmark it and spread the word.

Yeee, worms are nasty. My rescue dog had them when I got her, and you could see them in her droppings. Quite disgusting. Fortunately, we're free and clear now. :)

    Good information!

Just before leaving Puerto Rico when I was in the Navy a gal gave me her dog named Sheeba. When we returned to the states I knew something was wrong when she did not act like her normal bouncy self. Diagnosis: Heartworms! The treatment is harsh, the poor dog went through h e double l after the conventional treatment of strychnine injections to kill the worms! Sheeba lived through it, although we have a few gray hairs over it. Prevention is key! Thanks for sharing all this great info!
