Small Things Can Make a Big Difference

Dollar Philanthropy is an effort to harness the power of the blogosphere to create a network individuals who will donate a single dollar each week to a reputable nonprofit organization.

A dollar doesn't seem like much and that is precisely the point. However, when combined, each of our individual dollars can make a huge difference to a local nonprofit that is seeking to serve a need and improve the community around them.

I am challenging readers to commit to giving $52 a year ($1 per week) for this project. If you want to give more that $1, please feel free. With this in mind, please set us up on your favorite RSS aggregator so you don't miss a post.

Good Causes That Can Use Your Help

Small nonprofits that have been highlighted on Dollar Philanthropy. These organizations do a lot to make their little corner of the world a little nicer.

Beauty Becomes You Foundation: The mission of BBYF is to preserve the dignity and self respect of senior adults through the provision of personal aesthetic care solutions that maintain and improve appearance while lifting self-esteem, building self-confidence and ensuring a strong sense of personal pride.
Abstraction Made Easy: Boston-based organization that seeks to bridge that gap by teaching children who an artist is and encouraging creative risk-taking, critical thinking, and spontaneity through personal, hands-on art making projects. AME introduces abstract art as a formal visual art language, as an extension of children's natural early expression and aesthetics.
MIMA Music: Provides music education to inner city children without music programs. They also provide aftershool programs to provide an alternative for those kids who are at risk of getting involved in drugs or gangs.
Our Pal's Place: A animal facility that rescues dogs from county shelters when they have been assigned a 'death date'. When these dogs are taken in, they are fully vetted, nursed back to health and some are given a human coach to help them overcome behavioral problems that may have been a product of their life before coming into Our Pal's Place.
Tiny Stitches: Tiny Stitches is a non-profit organization that provides basic clothing and other items for disadvantaged newborns in North Georgia.
Barrel of Monkeys: Barrel of Monkeys is an arts and education company that teaches creative writing through specialized workshops in under-resourced public schools and then adapts and performs the student's writing using professional actors into in-school performances.
Reaching Out Foundation: An all volunteer organization that provides educational and financial resources to patients and families with Cystic Fibrosis.

Rochester Roots: Rochester Roots develops self-reliance by providing the education and tools that help low-income people obtain nutritious, locally grown food, and through the development and marketing of urban produce and products. They also develop school yard community gardens.
One To One: One To One ~ Women Coaching Women: a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting women to achieve sustained success in creating the life of their dreams through one-to-one life coaching.

They provide 6-9 months of free coaching to women in transition from challenging social and economicsituations and backgrounds who would otherwise not be able to afford it. One to One enables clients to identify their dreams and desires and then translate those into practical, realistic, actionable lifeplans.
