Dolly Parton is absolutely the most popular country music star of all time. She is one of those rare and genuine voices that became pride of country music. She is a celebrated actress, famous song writer, singer with nonstop hits. Dolly Parton plays many instruments very skillfully, and is patron for many significant charities and social causes. She has been named as queen of country music. Her contributions include more then twenty five number one hit singles; Dolly Parton has more then forty number songs in top ten charts. There is no stopping her, unstoppable and unbreakable, she has been performing for more then fifty years.

Early Life

Dolly Parton was born in 1946. It was a completely different time and era, she happy lived with twelve brothers and sisters. The family was not rich, but they had a loving and caring mother. The rustic one room cabin was their home for early years. The music was part of every day life for them. Her love for religion is evident in many of her spiritual songs.

Discovering Music

From very young age Dolly Parton was extremely good singer. Her voice was discovered by the local radio station in Tennessee. She was only nine at time but she quickly became a well known name and popular. The next step was television, where she started to appear in WBIR TV. In the young age of 13 Dolly Parton's first recordings were released. She appeared in the Grand Ole Opry. She brought with her a distinct style and traditional folklore of Tennessee.

Early Success

In the start it was her distinguished song writing that made her known in the musical circles. Songs like, "Put it off until tommorw", and "Fuel to the Flame". In this period many famous singers including "Bill Phillips", "Hank Williams Jr", and "Skater Davis" all started to take up her songs. Her own first song that was a slightly noticeable was "Happy, Happy Birthday Baby". This is ironic that her first hit was "Dumb Blond". This song reached at number 24 in country charts. The next hit was "Something Fishy". The first album was "Hello, I am Dolly".

Marriage & Family Life

In 1966 Dolly Parton Married Carl Thomas Dean. She met him two years before on her first day in Nashville. They are living happily ever after. Dean is media shy person but both of them have raised many nephews and nieces and children they adopted, sadly they did not had any child of their own.

Country Music Success

In 1967 Dolly Parton started to regularly appear in the television show "The Porter Wagoner Show". The Show gradually started to get popular. The first hit was "The last thing on my Mind". The hits just keep on coming in the next six years. The first solo hit reached in the number 17 and it was called "Just because I'm a Woman". Dolly Parton proved to be more successful as duet singer with Wagoner but not solo until 1970. This was soon to change with "Mule Skinner Blues", and "Gimmick". The song which became her signature song was "Coat of Many Colors". Her first song to reach number one was "Jolene".

Solo Artist Success

Dolly Parton went solo in 1976 but continued to work and appear with Wagoner for seven more years. "I will always love you" which has become the song which become a number one hit in charts was about her parting ways with Wagoner. She was asked to sell the rights to this song by Elvis Presley but she refused. A wise decision that later has made her earn millions. In the 1970s Dolly Parton released her next eight number one hits. The success was not far away in 1977 "Here you Come Again" become number 3 in pop charts. She even won Grammy Award for this song. The next more significant albums includes, "Baby I am Burning", "Heartbreaker", "Two doors Down", "You are the only One", "Starting Over Again", "Old flames Can't Hold a Candle to You", "9 to 5", "Save the Last Dance for Me", "Tennessee Homesick Blues", "Real Love", and "Don't Call it Love".

Dolly Parton did many television appearances and even had her own show named "Dolly". Her most successful film is "Nine to Five", later she appeared in films including "Steel Magnolias", "Straight Talk", "Frank Mikulski, C.I.", "The Beverly Hillbillies", and "Armed and Fabulous". Her Business ventures include the Dollywood Company; this is an establishment that houses the theme park and a lively country music hall, and dinner theater. Dolly has also opened venues like the Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede at Branson Missouri and Myrtle Beach. She also has shares in the Sandollar Productions with Sady Gallin. Her company produced hits including, "Babes", "Quilt", "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Sabrina" and "Father of Bride". Her iconic style, humor, and positive attitude have been appealing the generations and generations of fans.

    Thanks for a very nice lens, on one of my favorite female country singers. I remember her singing with Kenny Rogers, I liked that very much.

    Dolly is so authentic: she said that if she had to she would sell her albums out of a pickup truck - she just loves to sing and I love to hear it! Thanks for the great lens that reminded me of how could she is.
