Dollywood Theme Park

A Family Tradition

Dollywood is a one of a kind theme park that was the vision of Dolly Parton. Located on a sprawling 125 acres in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Dollywood is a very popular family vacation destination.

I live in Knoxville, Tn. With good traffic, I'm about one hour away from the park. It's no wonder that my family, along with many other Tennesseans, visit Dollywood every year. There is always a new attraction or show to visit. Along with all the other attractions in surrounding Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville, You will always find something to do. Just make sure Dollywood is at the top of your list.

Dollywood on Wikipedia

Dollywood is a theme park owned by country music singer Dolly Parton and the Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation. It is located in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Dollywood has 3,000 people on its payroll, making it the largest employer in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee.

In addition to standard amusement park thrill rides, Dollywood features traditional crafts and music of the Smoky Mountains area. Dollywood also owns the adjacent Dollywood's Splash Country, and the chain of Dixie Stampede dinner theaters. The park hosts a number of concerts and musical events each year, including appearances by Parton and her family, as well as other national and local musical acts.

Dollywood hosts nearly 2.5 million guests annually, many of them also visiting the nearby Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The theme park's operating season runs from early spring until around Christmas.

Dollywood is also the site of the Southern Gospel Museum and Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Southern Gospel Music Association, an independent non-profit corporation.

Southern Comfort Food

You won't go hungry here!

One of my favorite things about Dollywood that make it so special is the food. It is made fresh out in the center of all the action. If you are looking to watch your wasteline, then bring your own snacks because the food here is made to please your taste buds. The poatotos smothered in onions and green peppers is a personal favorite or you can make a stop at the authentic 50's diner for a cheeseburger and chocolate shake. The Rollercoasters

Dollywood has some amazing rollercoasters. They include the Tennessee Tornado, Thunderhead, and (my fave) Mystery Mine. These coasters will rock your socks! What makes the rides even more amazing is the surrounding views of the Smoky Mountains...if you can keep your eyes open long enough to take it all in.

Dollywood's Heritage and Crafts

Dollywood is lined with local artists. This picture is of my friend's father, the local blacksmith. Go by his shop and check out the world's largest wind chime. While you're visiting the park, be sure to visit the glass blowers, candy makers, and even authentic wagon builders. The culture runs deep in Dollywood and old-fashioned values remain.

SkyZip

"This is the first, multiple zipline attraction at any theme park anywhere in the world," says Pete Owens with Dollywood.

SkyZip at Dollywood is the newest attraction. I can say from personal experience that you have to do this! On one of my very few trips without the children, my hubby coaxed me into trying this. The drawback is that it costs an extra $40 on top of the admission price but it was so worth it to me.

You will spend about 2 hours total zipping around the park on the zip lines that span from 100 to almost 1,000 feet long. The highest is 125 feet off the ground. I have never felt more scared and more free in my life. The experience is one that you are sure to never forget.
