I made this dolphin picture while working at Sea World. I also made the dolphin pictures in the Florida Keys and the dolphin video at Mote Marine that appear on this lens. Because I was making images for a photo buyer I was not able to get in the water myself. But, it sure looked like fun!
Thanks for visiting.

Dolphin breaches next to me in the Gulf of Mexico.

Last year we traveled to Pine Key, Florida, to make pictures for Kuyper Photography our stock photography business. While there, we took a boat ride down to Cabbage Key for lunch. I was the only passenger out on the lower back deck when this dolphin began leaping out of the water four feet from me. Before the ride ended the first dolphin was joined by three more.
I have often photographed dolphins, but they were always captive animals behind glass. This time it was much more exciting to be so close to these beautiful wild creatures.

There are thirty-three known species of ocean dolphins, five river dolphins, and six kinds of porpoise. The Bottlenose Dolphin is probably the best-known species, the one you are most likely to see performing in a show at an aquarium. It is the largest of the 'beaked' dolphins. It is very popular with human beings, partly because of its fixed facial expression that resembles a 'smile'. The dolphin in the logo above is a bottlenose.
Spinner dolphins get their name from their habit of spinning as they jump out of the water. They are a slim dolphin, the largest of which are about 7 ft. long. and weigh 200 lb. They live in tropical oceans around the world far from the shore. Their most characteristic feature is their very long beaks, with which they catch squid and small fishes.
Pacific White-Sided Dolphin living in the deep temperate waters of the North Pacific, this dolphin has a tall, hooked dorsal fin which is half white and a white belly. It weighs about 200 lbs. and grows to about 7 ft. in length. At times, it can be found as far south as Baja California and the Sea of Japan.

- I saw dolphins several times, both when I went sailing (I love the way they play with the sailing boat!!!!) and when I joined the team of dolphin-watchers in Adriatic sea for a project of monitoring and conservation, so I was able to see them in the wild from a very, very close distance.
They´re wonderful animals!

- I've been fortunate to see dolphins a few times in the wild. A photo from one of the times I saw some at close range is on my lens about a cruise I took to Mexico. Lovely photos in this lens!
