Domain Web Site Hosting

Domain web site hosting in itself is a little confusing. You purchase a domain but then need a place to host the web site for the domain you just purchased. Its two different things really.

Let's Talk About The Domain

125x125 Hosting & Servers GoDaddy.com
When you purchase a domain, you do it for a set amount of time. You can get it for 1 year or you can get it for 10 years, etc. The domain is pretty important in that it holds a lot of weight when people do a search in the search engines like Google. So for example, let's say you purchase the domain www.coolbloggingsite.com, now anytime someone types in "cool blogging site" into a search engine, there is a really good chance you will come up pretty high in the results. Of course, there are other factors that are involved, but the domain name is pretty darn important.

Domains can be purchased from many different places but I personally like to buy my domains from GoDaddy.com.
I have tried other cheaper places, but you get into issues where those cheaper places want you to host your site with them as well. So for instance, I bought one domain from a cheaper place, and then I couldn't host it anywhere else for like 90 days. Well, since I use HostGator for my domain web site hosting, I basically couldn't do anything with it for 90 days. So, I learned my lesson and now only use Godaddy.com.

Now Lets Talk About Hosting

Now that you have purchased your domain, you will want to build a site that the domain points to. A lot of people just build a blog. It is easier and there are many templates out on the market for snazzing it up! Most of them are free, too!

There are a lot of factors that go into picking a place for your domain web site hosting, not the least of which is cost. There are free hosting services out there but your service is most likely going to reflect that. Your site may be down often and there won't be much you can do about it since its free. Not to mention, there will most likely be all kinds of advertisements on your site that the host will get paid for. And guess what? YOU could be placing those ads on your page and getting paid for them!

The best place I have found for domain web site hosting is at HostGator. The reason I like them so much is number one...cost! They have VERY competitive pricing and you can pick whatever plan suits you. Just to give you an idea, I have the $10 a month plan, and I have a bunch of domains I have hosted through them. My plan has unlimited domain hosting. That means, I can also have a whole bunch of different email addresses, all hosted in the same account. Oh, and if you are building a blog, they have a control center that will automatically install all of the files needed for WordPress onto your site. You really do get a lot of stuff for a low price. I highly recommend HostGator!

What Was That I Said About Getting Paid For Ads On Your Site?

Yep, you heard me right. There are many ways to get paid from your site. What I think is the best way, is through affiliate marketing. That is basically sending people from your site to a merchant site through a special link so that if that person buys something at the merchant site, you get paid a commission. And that commission can range anywhere from 2% to 75% or more! It really depends on what you are selling.

But, if you really want to get deep into affiliate marketing, you will want to get some help to learn how to do it right. There are lots of scams on the internet, but there is one that is definitely the real deal. That is the Wealthy Affiliate University. I am a member there, so I can assure you that it is legit. In fact, I have been a member there is early 2008, and I don't plan on leaving any time soon.

These guys have forums with lots of veterans in the marketing world to help you out. Plus they have a boat-load of tools that will help you in your efforts. However, they do offer hosting on their site, but I wouldn't use it. I tried it when I first started out and it is not very user friendly and was down a lot. I finally got the HostGator account and transferred all my stuff to them. Wealthy Affiliate is apparently going to completely redo the hosting stuff, but they really aren't about hosting, they are about internet marketing and real good at it. Just bypass the hosting stuff.
