Grab a freshly deleted domain name and make some quick cash!

There is a whole new industry developing around catching expired domains and either re-selling them or developing them into content sites.

Every day thousands and thousands of domains expire. In order to filter through these we need some tools and that's what this lens is all about.

I want to help you find some great expired domains!

Raw Materials

Getting the expired domain lists

There are many places you can get lists of expired domains because they are considered public information.

Premiumdrops.com and domainsnext.com are just a couple of sites that offer these public lists. As you can tell from these sites the lists of expired domains are HUGE!

It is not uncommon to see over 50,000 (yes, fifty thousand) domains drop in ONE day!

Unless you want to look for needles in the domain hay stack, you need some tools.

Tools

Sorting lists

Clearly you cannot go through the lists of thousands of names by hand on a daily basis. There are just too many names to look through.

First, you want to make sure that the list you have is of domains that are actually available for registration. Domains go through a fairly extensive cycle of pre-drop and pending delete. During this cycle most of the domains with traffic will be grabbed by experts with help from custom software.

However, what we are looking for is expired domains available for registration.

One of the best sorting tools out there, you probably already have on your computer: Microsoft Excel.

With a spread sheet program you can sort lists from PremiumDrops or some other list site. You can sort by Google PR or Alexa ranking. You can even sort by how old the domain is according to WaybackMachine!

All these sorting criteria can help you narrow down you lists of tens of thousands to just a few hundred.

Now you have a much smaller hay stack and you can now browse this and look for good looking domain names. You could also search this smaller list for your desired keywords.

Still, this process will take you hours on a daily basis.

If you think the method above is overwhelming and too much of a time investment, you are not alone.

To make your life easier, you can always subscribe to a service that does all the narrowing down for you!

Helpful Services

Automated sorting.

If you want to take advantage of the fact that 1000's of domains expire every day you need to act fast.

Spending hours every day may not be the best use of your time, so you may want to consider a domain sorting service.

One of my favorites is DropHistory.com. DropHistory gives out a free daily list of pre-sorted domains. The list is fairly short, but a full list is available for members.

Just as a sample, here are a few domains that I found on their free lists:

livefootball.com
dragonballfans.com
jobsinpolice.com
wheregirlsgo.com
topmarketersecrets.com
easybiofuel.com

The list goes on and on and there is a new list every single day!
