Domestic Cars vs. Foreign Cars

Ranked #1,409 in Cars, #75,827 overall

HERE'S WHAT I THINK

Domestic Cars vs. Foreign Cars

We drive American! I am a firm believer in buying American made cars. My wife and I have 4 Ford's. 2 Escape's, a 1978 Bronco that I'm restoring and a 1995 Mustang. Over the course of our marriage we have also had an Explorer, a Ranger and a F-150. I have never had a problem with the quality of American cars.

I know that's it's hip to drive brands Acura, Mitsubishi and Subaru and that Foreign Cars are really popular but I truly prefer to Drive American. Which do you prefer to drive?

Bob says:

A New Damestic Company is Via Motors. They are full size Chevy Trucks, Vans and SUV'S that have been made into a gas/diesel eletric it's really cool check it out at viamotors.com. It will most likely be the next vehicle I buy!

Bob says:

Chevy, Ford or Dodge Trucks and SUV's for me!!! My monmouth has a Nissan and I won't touch it at all.

linkravci says:

I am for Foreign Cars they cost much money but we can buy if we take loans

David says:

Import killer says:

grant chao: You are a moron...running NOS on your car? Nos is a fucking brand name...maybe if your ran Nox Using a Nos system you'd be getting somewhere...but you'd blow your shitbox toyota motor up because they run on rice...im suprised you didnt know that

Geeky_1 says:

Here is what I will say, I love my fords I have put well over 250 thousand miles on an escape, a taurus, and an explorer. I did regular maintenance and had to replace things like alternators and starters. so I prefer American made cars. Now If My next 2 cars broke down or had major issues would I try a different brand, sure but if it aint broke why change it.

USA-USA-USA! says:

Domestic cars are certainly more reliable than an imported car. I see this all the time with things such as price, safety and build quality. Lets face while american cars built in the past decade may not be as fuel efficent as some of the imported cars, I certainly believed that the detroit three has made some great strides in the past two years with fuel efficientcy. I also believe that american cars are far more durable than the imported cars. I mean seriously I see imported cars everyday and they're mostly made out of plastic so I am not too surprised to hear someone tell me about how a piece of the body is cracked or smashed when they backed it into a pole. I also feel that people tend to forget that an american car employs americans. I heard a statistic on the news the other day that 1 auto assembly line job employs 9 more americans through parts suppliers, distributors, and dealerships. I have to sayt that, that is a pretty good statistic to hear especially when the unemployment rate is stuck at 9.1%. One more thing if your someone who is constantly bashing the detroit three anytime the topic of foreign versus domestic cars comes up, do us all a favor and shut up. Your probably one of those people who wonders why not as many products are made in america as there use to be, as you park your prius in the Walmart parking and aimlessly through the store.

Grannys Spandex says:

domestic is the shit. they say built ford tough for a reason

howdoyouspellstupid says:

American cars are definitely better... I drive a Jeep, and I love it. But I do like certain special foreign cars.

Moe says:

I'm an owner of a service center in Canada. I'm seeing same problems in both domestic and imports. But the parts for imports are way more expensive than domestic almost triple sometimes. Also electrical parts are difficult to get. I've been driving domestic for the last 12 years between GM, Chrysler and Ford vahicles, and would still drive them because I find them safer, more reliable, parts are available everywhere and easy to repair.

Aman says:

I like american cars like Honda & Toyota. forget the imports like GM, Ford, & Dodge. Mexico can keep those cars and their crappy parts.

chris says:

well she wasnt very loyal last night! and yes im hung like a mother fuckin horse

chris says:

yeah i have actually. i made sweet sweeeeeet love to YOUR wife in my AMERICAN made vehicle. She was sooooo tight!

chris says:

grant chao. You are gay your little camry couldnt smoke crap. My shits are better quality than your toyota.

chris says:

Foreign cars are pieces of shit. You live in America, drive an american made vehicle dumbass

JERRY says:

HI SAY BUY AMERICAN,LETS SUPPORT OUR COUNTRY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE,EVERYTIME I SEE THAT CHINESE COMERICAL ABOUT THE USA BEING TAKEN OVER BY THE CHINESE IT MAKE MY INSIDES UPSET. I THINK ABOUT THE THOUSAND OF OUR TROUPS LOST TO SAVE THIS COUNTRY .MAYBE IT'S TIME TO WAKE THE SLEEPING GIANT UP.

Jason says:

Even if American cars break down more and use more gas, you should buy American. If your car needs a repair, you're supporting the american auto mechanics. Buying gas supports the cashiers who work at the various gas stations too. Also, buying an American car means that most of the money you spent stays in America. If you buy a Honda, even if it is built here, the profit initially goes to the Japanese headquarters, then to the American workers. So, most of the money goes to Japan. If you buy Domestic, then most of the money stays here. Also, it is true that buying a foreign car negatively impacts the American economy. Every time you buy a foreign car, you're taking money away from American companies. This not only effects the CEOs but also the men on the assembly line. GM and Chrysler needed bailouts because people put their money into foreign cars. Buying a domestic car keeps the money here, and thus the workers here spend the money they make here.

Also, a domestic car costs less and it is a worthy investment. A 2011 Chevy Malibu costs $1000 less than a 2011 Nissan Altima. Meaning that you would need to spend $1000 in non-scheduled maintenance before you actually save money. Don't buy the hype. Keep American money in America. Buy American.

rock12 says:

I rather honda or toyota better cars

Elizabeth Newton says:

I research a car to see where it is actually built from ground up. If I find that it is completely made in America, I buy it. I would prefer to buy everything made in America but sometimes that isn't possible. Products made in America usually provide jobs for Americans. The more jobs Americans have the better our economy is.

No way, Monkeybrain! Foreign Cars Are Way Better!

Rick James says:

HONDAS NISSANS ACURAS LEXUS
ITS ALL ABOUT FOREIGN SHIT MANNNNNNNNNN

Jon Jon says:

I love Nissans and Hondas and if any of you clearcoats have anything to say about it, say it now.

afragilecliche says:

Very good lens, thanks for the info. Good thing diminished value laws apply to ANY vehicle regardless of what country they are produced in!

Tom says:

What could be more american than buying the best product available. Our country was founded on the idea that you should always look for the best deal in the free market. If I feel that a Honda is a better deal than a Ford why would I waste my money? Also, percentage wise Honda makes the more parts for it's cars in the US than Ford or GM. Domestic indeed...

grant chao. says:

chris, my wife is the most loyal thing in this world. annnnnnnnnd she doesnt like white wieners because she has heard they are small...and if you think i am small just because i am asian, you are wrong. you have heard of O.G. Mudbone? well, he is hung like ME.
bitch.

grant chao. says:

whatever chris. you have no pride. you think that swearing on the internet makes you look tough. have you ever made sweet, sweet, sensious love to your wife in a hybrid? NOPE. didnt think so.

grant chao. says:

foreign cars are not pieces of s***, chris. you are wrong. my toyota camry could smoke your stupid mustang or camaro in a quarter any and every day of the week. you can use NOS and have 3 car lengths and my hybrid horses(nickname for my horsepower that is also hybrid) will smoke you WHILE getting 35+MPG.

whore.

Mike says:

Buying an American car built by the UAW has becom a political act. The union is so criitcal to supporting leftist democrats that any traditional american who buys an american car has got to think seriously about what that purchase really means. Thie money will end up electing politicians they may well not agree with and supporting causes they are morally opposed to. This situation was created by the unions and was spotlighted by the automaker bailout bill. That union now owns Chrysler in a shady deal and GM took us all to the cleaners. This is outright political corruption in my book and bad politics as well. If you believe in the traditional America we all grew up in, never buy an UAW car!

rock12 says:

Asian cars will always be built better than American.
This is why asian cars bet american cars.
My car that i have seems to want to fall apart why?
Plus the value of my car is very low

rock12 says:

I will say this put a american car against any asian the american cars looks ugly all time.
Asian seem to build there cars with pride.
They save more gas too with asian cars.
With american cars you waste more gas

rock12 says:

I had an american car to many problems with it.
I did by an american car after a year it fell apart.
also cars form asia have better resale value.
Asian cars are better built with better style too

mike says:

Honda...made in America

Fucks Yuh!!!!iiii Wubb yuh!!!=D

Bichaaa says:

whatevs!

Michael says:

I drive foreign cars. 1st: they have way more better quality then Big 3 from my own experience. 2nd: I cant accept the low skill or no skill UAW worker get paid for too high to build junk cars. I will never buy any Big 3 cars.

foreign.ftw says:

american cars fail in comparison to REAL luxury brands.. suzukis even feel nicer quality than cadillacs... thats saying something.

as for performance, lets see an american company make something faster than a bugatti veyron, or make a car that can actually hold half its value.
