Will New York Billionaire Donald Trump Run for President?

Donald Trump ... Is the White House in His Future?

Donald Trump has been very outspoken in his criticism of the current crop of U.S. politicians. Many pundits have speculated about whether or not the real estate billionaire would choose to run for the top job at the White House. Last year on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" with Joe Scarborough, Donald Trump indicated that he was indeed open to the possibility.

I've been asked for years to do it. And I had no interest. This is the first time I am ... at least I'm considering it.

Do you think billionaire businessman Donald Trump would be an effective Commander in Chief?

Loading

Yes ... and here's why

Diane Parsons says:

Donald Trump is the best and probably one of the only people in our country that will bring our country back to good standing. He's not a "yes" man and will move when he needs to make a quick decision, and that decision will be made on solid information and sound financial thinking. I have already decided that when..not if...Mr. Trump decides to run for Presidnent in 2012, I will rearrange my schedule and work towards his election. All other fund raising efforts that I do (app.10 hours per week) will be given to his campaign.

Troy Dixon says:

Yes.We need somebody that knows how to get our country back.
He Knows how to make money, and i think he can make our country make money once again.Get in there Donald before it's to late for all of us.
Thanks,Troy Dixon.(Small retail business owner)

riley ann says:

Yes, except someone else would have to run his businesses. I'm not sure from what he's said, that to solve America's debt and unemployment, he could separate himself from the Rothschild cartel and international bankers, with whom he's had dealings, to bring America back to its definition of a Republic again. It's been reported that he does not believe in individual property rights and forms conglomerates, doesn't he?

ohcaroline says:

I think he is smart enough to run the country. Anything is better than what is going on now.

Susan52 says:

I think he would be effective. I've heard him speak recently in various news arenas and answer questions about a variety of issues and I was impressed. I've said for a long time that this country should be run more like a business and who better than The Donald to be its president? I'm not sure he's my first choice at this point, but he's right up there as a contender.

charlino says:

Yes. I think he would make a good contender. He has experience in dealing with all kinds of people, and if someone isn't doing their job, he wouldn't be afraid to fire them. Owning a business, he knows something about balancing a bankbook. He has his own money. Being an employee of the taxpayers, he would be less likely to steal from them. He has children, and is interested in this country's future. Having been bankrupt before, he knows how do dig himself out of a trench - he would be the most qualified to get our country out of debt, too. As a businessman, he is all to familiar with the US tax and legal system and has a good idea of what does not work for those who create jobs, as well as those who are employed.

RoyPope says:

Mr. Trump has the sound business sense that is going to be necessary for returning some sense of stability to the American economy. His American patriotism is unrivaled, and his commitment to success in all that he does would only serve as a valuable asset to the future success of America.

kiwisoutback says:

He seems more honest than some of the other Republican candidates I've seen. He knows business, and our country needs some good business advice right about now!

Diana says:

We need a businessman as Commander-in-Chief.

No ... and here's why

jaguarecw says:

no and here's why The Donald is in this thing simply to maintain his day job!
He has already shown himself as a joke and not a serious contender! He will announce that he will not run!!!!

tagsforkids says:

While I like a lot of what he has to say (as do a lot of folks hence his popularity in the polls), I'm not yet convinced he should be in the White House. However, I will agree that it is probably time for a non politician to give it a whirl!

Margo_Arrowsmith says:

Don Trump is used to having people say "How High" when he says jump. He will freak out when he has to deal with Congress and every other thing and person that won't revere him. His ego will have a very hard time

Alexwinnipeg says:

No I do not think so, I guess it would be great at the very beginning but then in the long term it will get the same as always.

awelldressedbullet says:

If it was a reality TV show he might, but in real life, don't think so.

JaguarJulie says:

Oh gosh, don't hold my feet to the fire, but something in my gut says NO! Don't run for President Mr. Donald Trump. Oh no!

I would lower the taxes for people in this country and corporations in this country and let China and some of the other countries that are ripping us off and making hundreds of billions of dollars a year, let them pay.

The America We Deserve

by Donald J. Trump

In a poll leading up to the 2000 presidential election, Donald Trump was named the second most popular candidate, right after front-runner George W. Bush. Lagging behind Donald Trump was then vice president Al Gore. "Nobody ever accused me of modesty, but it's a tremendous honor to have millions of people considering you for high office when you didn't seek it out," responded the iconic New York businessman. That same year, Donald Trump published The America We Deserve, which discusses in detail how he would run the country if he were president. A few months ago, I had the honor of hearing Donald Trump speak in person, and he made it very clear how unhappy he is with the way our country is being run by the current crop of politicians. When someone in the ballroom shouted out "Mr. Trump, run for president," the entire audience broke out in thunderous applause.

Well he would be better than most of the politicians in Washington because he understands basic economics and he loves America.
  • tagsforkids Apr 26, 2011 @ 9:33 am | delete
Regardless of how one feels about Trump and his politics, he is going to make this a much more interesting race, whether he actually runs or not.
  • TapIn2U Apr 9, 2011 @ 10:13 pm | delete
So much to learn from important people. I think if he really wants to help the country then why not run for President? Blessings Sundae:)
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Apr 1, 2011 @ 4:40 am | delete
I think if Trump wants to help he can do it without being President. However, this is an interesting and well done lens which has just been Angel Blessed and lensrolled to Born to Be Angelic
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Apr 1, 2011 @ 4:36 am | delete
Interesting lens. If Don wants to help, then he needs to volunteer time for consultations etc. As far as running this country like a business....is Don willing to run his business like a Democratic Republic? I don't think so.

Mussolini states that fascism should really be called corporatism because it was the blending of the corporate with government. Government isn't a business.
