Don't Vote

Ranked #18,943 in Culture & Society, #386,390 overall

Don't waste your time.

It's worse than the DMV! You get up, expecting it to go well, and then it's mass chaos at the polls. You stand in line, get your paperwork, shove through all the people, step inside the booth - it only takes, well, 20 seconds, but still, for what? A chance to determine the quality of your life for the next four years? Please. How important could that be?

Top five reasons not to vote

  • Health care
You get sick: tough noogies. What's an ER or surgery bill here or there?
  • Gas prices
As long as your family all lives close and everything you need is within walking distance, you can become a hermit and live quite well, thank you.
  • Education
It's fun to pick on the slow kids...er, adults. You know, the ones who can't balance their checkbooks or identify who's on the Susan B. Anthony dollar.
  • Social Security
You're a hoarder, not a spender. So you don't need to worry about retirement. Your kids will take care of you.
  • Economy and jobs
Work is so overrated. Besides, if things get really tough, there's always eBay. Bonus: you won't have to drive to work!

What do you predict?

KimberlyDawnWells predicts:

If everyone who doesn't normally vote got out and voted, they'd be surprised by how much their vote counts.

chefkeem predicts:

I'd be surprised if everyone who doesn't normally vote got out and voted...

Susan52 predicts:

The majority of those in Congress will be too cowardly to make any major changes and will continue to pay little attention to the will of the people, their constituents, no matter who is president.

AngelaHarms predicts:

...the war will go on (for now), the powers-that-be will continue to be-about-power (for now), and we divine sparks will go on creating a new, beautiful world, so that things can change.

badmsm predicts:

I don't really care who people vote for as long as they show up at the polls! Too many people have given their all, especially for women to vote! Millions around the world do not enjoy the freedoms we take for granted, so stand up and be counted.

writertiff predicts:

I agree Kimberly! In fact, when the other guy is ahead in the polls, I cross my fingers that his followers get lazy and don't vote because I know I'll be at the polls. This has caused many failed political careers I'm sure.

If you WERE voting...who would you vote for?

Just hypothetically.

Which way do you lean?

McCain/Palin

badmsm says:

Echoing Tiff's sentiment of the 'lesser of two evils'. I am weary of this campaign, and the venom and hypocrisy on BOTH sides. I'll be glad when it's over.

writertiff says:

Being a disgruntled voter this year (I'm not cheering for either candidate), I have to say my vote will probably go to McCain as the lesser of two evils as it concerns my personal beliefs and opinions. I really wish they'd do away with parties altogether and just have people - hooked up to lie detectors that zap them when they fib. lol I want total reform of everything.

Obama/Biden

chefkeem says:

Hypothetically, I'd vote for Obama.
Obviously, we need change.
Theoretically, Obama is the one who could bring change.
Obviously, McCain is about keeping the status quo.
Realistically, I'm an alien and can't vote!

thefluffanutta says:

If I could vote (which I can't, because I'm foreign), I sure as hell wouldn't want to see McCain in the Whitehouse - too much like Bush, and we (outsiders) can all see what a bad job he did.

If you're not sure, please vote on my behalf, and for the sake of the rest of the World!

Important!

Your vote doesn't count...

Neither did that of all the democrats who stayed home in 2000.

I don't need no church and state.

What about democrats in 2000?

Although Gore won the popular vote, the US assigns "electoral" votes to states. So each state has an election, and the winner gets all those votes. After much debate, Florida's 25 electoral votes ended up going to George W. Bush, instead of Al Gore, giving Bush only 7 more electoral votes than Gore, thus winning presidency. In Florida, Bush's margin of victory was 0.0092%.

So don't vote. You don't count.
