Doodle Flowers

Make your own doodle flowers

Doodle flowers are great as little decorations for your home.
They are easy and fun to make and you can also decorate your scrapbook pages with them.

I hope you will have fun following my instructions.

What you need

Usually you have everything at home you need for making these doodle flowers.

  • Paper
  • Black Pen / Fineliner
  • Scissors

  • Printer if you want to print my outline images
  • Flower punch

A flower punch is a very cool thing to make the base shapes for your doodles :)
Of course it's not necessary - but it's really nice to have one.

You don't have a flower punch?

If you don't have a flower punch, that's no problem. You will get some outline images for different flowers here and you can cut them with a small scissors.

But don't cut the flowers before you are start with the drawing. It's better to draw first, cut and maybe redraw the outline if you cut away a bit from it.

Things you may want to have

I have the Stork Embroidery Scissors (see link below) for fine details.
But I only use it for thin paper.

    Let's start with outline images

    Grey flower outlines

Grey outlines - change them to a size of your choice, print them and redraw them with a black pen.

You will add pattern and details to the flowers by hand. So I think it will look better if the outlines are drawn by hand to.
It's just a small detail, but I think it will make a difference.

    The same outlines - black

If you don't want to redraw the outlines - use this image, resize and print it.

    Start with a flower

I am drawing my flower digitally, because it's quicker for me to make the images :)
Nevertheless they are "hand drawn", because I am drawing them with a pen on a Wacom Cintiq tablet.

On this image the flower has the digital outline.

    First simple details

On these images, I added the first simple details.

If you try yourself, don't try to be very accurate. We don't want to imitate a computer generated image here :)

    And more details

    flower outline details

Always start very simple and then add more and more details :)

    As you can see....

I really don't try to be very accurate :)

    More small details

    flower outline details

I added more little details to the flower.

And I think it it enough now :) I like the flower as it is and I don't want to fill it with pattern.

How it looks like on colorful paper

    whimsical flowers

Try to draw a flower on colorful paper.
    It looks really nice too.

    Have fun :)
