Dora Games - Old versus New
Although sitting down and spending some fun, quality time with your kids is an excellent idea, I'm also a parent who 'encourages' my kids to play online games featuring Dora the Explorer and such like. Yup, encourages. Why?
Kids as young as 2 can start to use a computer - we had one of those toy keyboards - and when they realise that the screen is REACTING to what THEY are doing with the keys, it's a picture to see their faces!
So, I believe it's not a bad thing to get kids playing games on the computer. They learn basic computer skills, problem solving and hand-eye co-ordination as well as a lot of fun. I would say that software can stimulate children's minds in ways that a board game cannot - the interaction levels just offers more in the way of creativity, imagination and learning.
Be amazed as you watch your child figure things out as they go along, improving their game playing skills as they manage to complete new tasks and stages of the games. And when they've gone to bed, you might even have a go yourself :)
