Garage Door Manufacturer Dorion Doors closes its doors after 63 years in business
In January 2011, industrial door manufacturer Dorion Doors, with a plant in Rigaud, Quebec, has closed its doors, declaring bankruptcy after 63 years of operation.
In 1948, Dorion Doors founder Paul Armand Asselin started making one-piece wood residential garage doors in Ile Perrot, Quebec. In 1954, he began making wood sectional doors for residential, commercial and industrial applications. In 1962, Charles Asselin, Paul Armand'son, took over the company and diversified its product line into multi-leaf doors, rolling steel doors, strip curtains and other types of specialty doors.
In 1996, Dorion Doors launched its polyurethane foam insulated sectional overhead doors. The commercial and industrial doors are called Dorion series 350 (Dorion series 780 for residential doors). These doors are 3" or 4" thick, command a high R-value (up to R-32) and are made with steel or aluminum skins. The only other Canadian manufacturer making these types of doors is Thermostop Doors (www.thermostop.com) in Saint-Hubert, Quebec. The Thermostop Sentinel (steel skins doors) and Thermostop AluRoyal (aluminum skins doors) are available in 2", 3" and 4" thick with steel or aluminum skins up to 16ga. thickness.
The 3" or 4" thick polyurethane foam insulated sectional overhead doors, made with heavy duty steel or aluminum skins, are typically used for industrial and institutional applications by high standard clients such as Hydro-Quebec, SNC-Lavalin, Rio Tinto Alcan, BHP Billiton, Canadian Royalties, Bombardier, General Electric, RCMP, Quebec Provincial Police, Ontario Provincial Police, Regional Government of
Kativik, Government of Nunavut etc.
