Dorothy L Sayers Lord Peter Wimsey novels

Ranked #15,469 in Arts & Design, #313,265 overall

A well written detective novel series

Dorothy L Sayers wrote the Lord Peter Wimsey novels which are set in the 1930s and which take place in a world created by her within this period. The novels do use real places, but the people are totally imaginary.

The books are well written and you are provided with all the clues so that you can play the game of working out the solution! This contrasts with some other equally well known authors of the period who seem always to choose the least probable character for the person who did the murder, and then work the story around this person.

The books have been reprinted again and again since their original publication and although some of them are becoming a little dated they have been used in films and are also available in recorded speech format.

I'm not sure which is my favorite. Oh how I loved watching it on Mystery with my mom.

I'll have to give one of these a try. I don't really enjoy mystery books (OD'd on them as a teenager and now find them too predictable), but you've intrigued me with the review that all the clues are made available to the reader. I really dislike books that throw in the villain in the last chapter and it is a character who has not appeared in the book until that moment, making it impossible for the reader to have known who the culprit was (Patricia Cornwell is guilty of this).

I have the Nine Tailors in my shelf. Unread. A reserve for the rainy days.
