.me domains becomes available over three phases
Registration for .me domains becomes available over three phases:Sunrise
April 28, 2008 to May 20, 2008. Open to entities that have a current trademark or service mark, registered or applied for prior to June 28, 2006, for the domain for which they are applying. The domain must be identical to the text or word elements of the trademark or service mark, and it must be nationally recognized within the country where it's registered.
Landrush
May 6, 2008 to June 26, 2008. Open to all, and no trademarks or service marks are required for domain applications.
Go Live
It went live on July 17, 2008. And it is opened to all now with no restrictions.

- Interesting. I guess it depends on what you want to use a domain for. I'd still stick with .com for business but .me could have it's uses.
