My Take On Dotee Dolls

I first came to know about dotee dolls via swap-bot.com. I was curious about what all these 'dotee doll' doll swaps were all about. I clicked on a few which led me to some pictures. My first impression was 'how ugly'. Not something I'd be into.It's been about 3 months since my first initial introduction to dotee dolls and I made my first one. Not necessarily like the tutorial that Dot put up in her blog but my very own creation. It's cute, even my boys think so and you know how much 'macho' boys love dolls!
I'm a fan of dotee dolls now. Why?
* Any crafter (expert or beginner) can make these dolls.
* You can make them as a form of therapy
* A child(or beginning crafter) can learn basic sewing skills by making something fun and collectible
* You can use up all those extra crafty tidbits you have lying around
* You can share the love by trading/swapping them either online or meetups with dotee followers
* You can express yourself however you please and not go wrong
* There is no RIGHT way to make a dotee doll
* They are unique
* They are cute just like those butt ugly dogs that at first you shy away from but then can't get enough of.

What yr.did the dotee dolls come out? I just discovered them today. I suppose if one is truly bored, or to make one for a young child would be good. To make one for yourself and hang on car mirror or keep in purse would be fun also.

- I've noticed that more and more people are wanting to learn how to make dotee dolls. Dotee dolls are not my original creation. But, I did want to show how to make them. So, I created my first DIY video. I posted it on You Tube, and I am posting it here for you to watch for yourself. I hope it is helpful to you!

- I started my Dotee Dolls for my swap-bot swap. Here are the fabric, beads, and embellishments for the dolls. My 3 partners are all a bit different in their likes and dislikes. Two are relatively similar, but I still want to make the dolls individuals for them.
- Not a Dotee Doll Tutorial
- Ruby is made up of basic shapes and her construction is also pretty simple. The fun lies in the embellishing and finishing of the doll. I made this first Ruby with a mix of fabric including wool-blend suiting, cotton print and corduroy. You may also note in the instructions that I have tried not to be too prescriptive with the embellishments or how to do the face - this is where your creativity and imagination take over!
