Ranked #30,719 in Home & Garden, #485,730 overall
Double vanities can be made from wood and natural stone and like your car, will need maintenance to last you years of satisfaction in style and function.
Caring for Wood Double Vanities
Wood double sink vanities are treated to retain moisture so it does not warp in a humid environment. There may be some changes in the wood during humid weather but these will not mar the beauty of the wood finish. To protect it against the changes in temperature, allow ventilation in the bathroom and by following the following tips, you can also maintain your bathroom double sink vanity.
Cleaning Tips for Water Stains
* Warm iron treatment for water spots is done by placing a clean blotter over the stain. The blotter should be wide enough to accommodate a warm iron to prevent damage to nearby surfaces.* Apply mayonnaise to the stain and wipe it dry before applying polish or wax. The wax should be not have a urethane finish.
* To clean the wood furniture, use non-alkaline soap and water but pretest the solution on a small portion behind the double wood vanities.
* Use a wood cleaner, not wax, to clean the wood surface. A wood cleaner will repel dust not collect it as wax would do.
Prevent water stains by placing coasters under glasses and avoid putting a small pot of watering plant on the surface no matter how nice it make the vanity look. Instead of real plants, use artificial plants to decorate the surface.
Maintenance Tips for Natural Stone Surfaces
Bath double vanities may use two kinds of marble tops - the polished or the honed marble. Polished marble has a shine but requires extra care because this stains easily. A drop of alcohol, lemon juice or tomato juice can create ugly stains. The honed marble has a matte appearance because this skipped polishing but won't stain so fast like polished marble. However, the two types are still prone to scratches and cuts. Before applying the cleaning agents, clean your marble double vanity's top. Use the right cleaning supplies such as specialized stone soap, soft sponge or washcloth, soft bristle brush, warm water and stone sealer.
To clean loosen the dirt with the soft bristle brush and brush this away with the sponge or soft washcloth. Use the stone soap on the surface and rinse the surface well with warm water making sure that all traces of the soap is gone. Wipe dry the surface immediately to prevent the marble from drying out.
Make sure though that all cleaning agents you use are not abrasive because these can mar the beauty of the marble surface so always ask the manufacturer's recommendations for cleaning materials. If there are none, do your research before cleaning the marble tops of your double vanities or have the marble re-polished instead. Granite tops require the same care and maintenance as marble tops only these don't scratch easily. As a tip, avoid these stone surfaces from getting into direct contact with water, acidic substance, and heat and avoid powder cleansers.
With proper cleaning and maintenance your bathroom double vanities will retain their original shine and luster for a long time, be it wood, marble, or granite.
